After a great stay in San Pedro for a wedding and an enjoyable visit to some Mayan ruins, we were looking for something easy before a next day flight home from BZE. The Grand Resort was only five miles from the airport-check, good reviews-check, had an in-house restaurant and bar-check. We arrived, hot from our Mayan excursion, and were greeted by friendly staff. When we got to our room the AC was not working. I went to the desk and they sent a kid to check on the AC. He concluded it was a bad remote and gave us a replacement. It still didn’t work (and was the same kind of AC unit we had in San Pedro, so it was not operator error). After a more blunt conversation with the front desk we were moved to another room, where the AC did indeed work fine. I then went into the bathroom to wash my hands and face. The water was turned on by the motion of my hands, and the strong water stream proceeded to move across the basin and out, all over me. I came out of the bathroom dripping, so my wife asked what happened. I explained, and she went into the bathroom to experience the “mini-shower” for herself. Either the sink was never checked after installation, or the plumbers had a sense of humor. I ended up turning the water valves under the sink down so we could use the bathroom sink. We had looked forward to a relaxing dinner and drinks that evening in the hotel, but after the first two episodes we decided to go elsewhere rather than take the risk the restaurant and bar (which were probably fine) would continue the pattern. We were very disappointed in our stay at the Grand Resort.
