Grand Base Beppu

The second stop of the Kitakyushu trip in Japan was to the Grand Base Beppu Hotel in Beppu. The hotel is about 700m from Beppu Station, within walking distance. The hotel is an apartment-type hotel with a full set of kitchen equipment, washing machine, etc. The room is large and has three beds, two large and one small, which can accommodate 5 people. The toiletries are very simple, only towels and toothbrushes. The most important thing to mention is that this is a hotel with completely self-service check-in and check-out. There is no waiter in sight, and the door is closed. You can only enter through a password, and the self-service check-in window (a video interactive screen ) is located inside. The most critical question is, if I book the hotel on Ctrip, I should be given (received) an access code and check-in registration, and then get a room password after successful registration. However, Ctrip never gave me any password, instructions or prompts (email/text message). It wasn't until I arrived at the door that I realized this was a fully self-service hotel. After carefully reading the instructions in English and Japanese at the door, I found out whether I needed to register and left my contact number. Being rogue, I had no choice but to initiate an international call to contact the hotel (by the way, it would be really annoying if you don’t understand Japanese or English). After entering, I obtained the access code and communicated the check-in method after entering, and obtained the registration code. After waiting for two calls totaling nearly half an hour (costing an additional fee of nearly RMB 30 yuan), I finally completed the check-in of two rooms. If you encounter such a situation, it is entirely Ctrip’s responsibility!

This hotel is unmanned, which doesn't matter. The key is that there is no elevator!!! Our room is on the second floor. The suitcase weighs 30kg. I broke my waist from lifting it up and down. There are no curtains in the room. They are not installed! The room is bright from 5 o'clock! There are only houses around, no restaurants or convenience stores. The nearest convenience store is far away, and it is empty in the morning and evening. You can't buy rice balls or anything. It is also very far from the station. The road back from the station is a bumpy road. It's okay if you don't take the luggage, but the suitcase can't be dragged at all. It's a nightmare experience.

It was my first time using the service and I was confused at the entrance and check-in, but I was glad that support was available right away. I wanted to clean the bathroom because it wasn't well-maintained, but I wish I had cleaning tools (though foreigners probably wouldn't do that). I was concerned about trash in the drawers and dust in the crevices of the bed. Overall, I think the location is good and the building is new and clean.

Since there is no elevator and you have to carry large luggage up and down the stairs, guests with luggage need to think twice. The toilet and bathroom are separate, but the ventilation is very poor! In addition, there is no replacement service because there is no front desk staff or cleaning staff. It is not friendly enough for travelers, even if they want to store their luggage! So I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. The most speechless thing is that when you get to the hotel, you can't enter because you don't have the correct check-in password. It's really unimaginable!

The room is large, a suite, very comfortable and suitable for families. It is unattended, with automated access control and self-service check-in, which may not be convenient if you are coming to Japan for the first time or are an elderly person.

There is thick dust stuck on the hair dryer. Hygiene and cleaning need to be strengthened.

The hotel is not too far from JR Beppu Station. It is within a 10-minute walk. It is fully self-service check-in and there is no hotel attendant. Remember to contact the hotel before checking in to obtain the gate password and check-in number.

The email has a link to register online and get the QR code (but the email has not been sent on the day of arrival, so it is a bit slow). After entering, there are two machines to scan the QR code Check in the passenger information and get the room number and room password. There are basic facilities in the room, there is a washing machine, and the bathroom can be used for washing powder. You may need to request it in advance. There are only two parking spaces, which are a bit limited. First come, first served, you can also consider parking opposite the nearby Kamenoi Hotel in Beppu. 300 yen per night. There is a funeral home on the same street. 😅 The hotel is very close to Beppu Station, many restaurants, and you can also go shopping in Youme Town.
