Beppu Suginoi Hotel

There is a water park, which is definitely worth it if you have kids. The buffet breakfast and dinner were good, featuring some local dishes. It's convenient if you're driving, but a bit far if you don't have a car. I would come back again with kids in the future.

Suginoi Hotel is essentially a resort, offering a wide array of leisure facilities like hot springs, a water park, and a bowling alley. It caters to both adults and children, making it perfect for families. The dining is also excellent; the breakfast and dinner buffets offer a rich selection of dishes, definitely worth trying!

This truly lives up to its 4-star rating. Everything was impeccable. Although there are different sections like the Rainbow, Star, and Sky Pavilions, even the Rainbow Pavilion offers a strong sense of luxury. It definitely makes me want to try staying in the Star or Sky Pavilions next time, which is a great way to encourage repeat visits.

The indoor water park is more suitable for children under 10. There are also one or two very thrilling rides. The temperature inside the water park is very warm; some family members found it a bit stuffy. The package I bought included breakfast and dinner buffets. The dining hall was very large and ornate, with a good variety of choices. Before entering, there were even popcorn and cotton candy machines. The outdoor hot spring view was absolutely beautiful.

There weren't enough coin-operated laundry machines, and I really wished they were located within the main building (I stayed in the Star Wing). Since I was traveling with kids, carrying heavy laundry all the way back to my room was quite a hassle. Other than that, we had a fantastic time.

The hotel felt new and clean, and it was great value for money. The Japanese-style dinner buffet was also very good.

This time, I did a lot of research for my hotel in Yufuin, but I just randomly picked one in Beppu that had high ratings and seemed popular. I ended up being a bit disappointed. I chose a deluxe ocean view room, but I couldn't even access the balcony to enjoy the view because the balcony door was locked. The hotel is a small resort, and most guests were families, a completely different vibe from the ryokan in Yufuin. The 3-day buffet really tested my appetite. I chose this place because the Trip.com description mentioned a swimming pool, and I wanted to go for a swim. Turns out, that 'pool' was actually an outdoor public bath for men and women!

The hotel is quite far from the train station. When I checked in, the staff member was unfriendly and couldn't speak English or Chinese. I requested a non-smoking room but was given a room on a smoking floor. When I asked to change rooms, the staff insisted, 'Your room is non-smoking.' Luckily, I eventually got a non-smoking room. Dinner was a buffet, and the service was still poor. Staff would stand by our table but wouldn't clear the dishes. The whole experience was just chaotic.

No car? No problem! Right next to Beppu Station, there's a dedicated waiting room for the hotel, so you don't have to worry about rain or snow. Plus, there's a free shuttle bus every 20 minutes. The hotel is situated on a hill, offering expansive views from all common areas. Inside, there's a large gift shop and a game center, perfect for both adults and children. Even though my room had a mountain view, I had no regrets; seeing the misty mountains and the steam from the hot springs was very characteristic of Beppu. Of course, the most important part is the hot springs! I'm not sure if there are private baths, but the public bathhouse was already fantastic! There are three large outdoor tiered pools, so even with a lot of people, it doesn't feel crowded or awkward. They overlook the bay, and the front-most pool even allows you to lie down – I really loved that spot. There are also several smaller single-person pools. The sauna was surprisingly in the outdoor area too; although small, it also offered sea views. And there were at least three cleaning staff constantly tidying up, keeping both the pools and floors very clean. I soaked in the hot springs three times during my one-night stay ♨️ – it was incredibly relaxing! Dinner was a buffet with a wide variety of dishes, and you could drink as much beer, red wine, white wine, and sake as you wanted! All the desserts were delicious. One more thing: even though I didn't take photos, I noticed many child-friendly details, such as a kids' food corner and utensils at the buffet, and changing tables in the hot spring changing rooms. It was my first time seeing this at a hot spring hotel, which is quite rare. I took the wrong train when I arrived, delaying my plans for an entire day. Combined with the rain, traveling solo, without a car, and not wanting to walk around in the wet, I only did one thing in Beppu: I just enjoyed the hotel 😹. Booking a good hotel is really important; my mood completely improved once I got here 🫶🏻
