The hotel used to be an old casino in Brisbane, a 200-year-old heritage-listed building, which was later renovated and converted into a hotel. It's just a few minutes' walk from Queen Street, making its location very central.
I didn't encounter any Chinese-speaking staff at the front desk, but all the staff members I met from various countries were friendly, polite, and very accommodating. Interestingly, I did meet a Chinese employee among the housekeeping staff.
The hotel has a grand overall feel, reminiscent of an old-world European boutique hotel. I was satisfied with both the cleanliness and the bedding – naturally, when traveling, these are the two aspects I care about most. We booked three rooms: two with twin beds and one with a Pallet king-size bed. The rooms had very high ceilings and were spacious. Overall, we were satisfied.
Minor drawbacks:
1. As it's an older building, it naturally has a slightly dated feel, but this doesn't detract from its overall charm.
2. Breakfast was à la carte and the quality was excellent. However, one experience was enough; on the second day, we all opted for McDonald's breakfast.
3. There was a small amount of rubbish left in the bathroom bin. It's unclear whether it was left by the previous guest or overlooked by housekeeping during cleaning.
