We were delayed for two days due to a snowstorm. Originally, we had planned to stay at this place for three nights, but in the end we only stayed for one night. However, we still had to pay the city tax for three nights per person. I feel bad but I don’t think this is necessarily a problem if that’s the city’s regulation.
The worst part is that I had already received a confirmation letter, as well as bed assignment information and related instructions sent by the hostel. But when we arrived at the hostel, we were told that our booking could not be found. If we wanted to stay, we would have to make a new reservation for one night ourselves.
Of course, the front desk staff on duty might not have known what exactly had happened. After some back-and-forth communication, we were told that our information had been found and we were allowed to check in again.
However, the new check-in details did not match the information in the confirmation letter at all. I don’t know why this happened.
If it was just a system issue, then the system is clearly very poor and the check-in experience was terrible.
If they had assumed we wouldn’t show up and canceled our booking in order to oversell the beds, that would be even worse.
As for the room, it looked similar to the photos from a certain angle, but in reality there were about 14–16 beds in one room. I had expected an 8-bed or even a 4-bed room. It was honestly ridiculous. The room smelled like fermented dirty rags.
Luckily, we didn’t stay for all three nights. Otherwise, my review would probably have been even harsher.
Maybe I misunderstood some of the rules, but overall, the check-in experience was truly very bad.
