There are places you visit, and there are places you return to. Benbulben Farmhouse is emphatically the latter. This is our sixth trip across the Emerald Isle, and for the sixth time we find ourselves pulling into the drive at Benbulben Farmhouse for a three-night stay. That says more than any review ever could. The approach alone never gets old: that extraordinary flat-topped silhouette rising ahead of you like a friendly table mountain, and the quiet, immediate sense that you've arrived somewhere that actually means something. Ian and Marita are the heart of it all. Warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about their corner of Sligo, they know this landscape inside out... whether you want to tackle the climb up Benbulben itself, find the drama of The Devil's Chimney, or uncover quieter hidden gems like The Glen. They'll point you in exactly the right direction, every time. The location is simply extraordinary. The Gleniff Horseshoe, the Benbulben Forest Walk, Mullaghmore's wild Atlantic coastline, and the whole sweep of Yeats Country are all on the doorstep. Sligo Town is close enough for an effortless evening out, head to Swagman for atmosphere and good times, or seek out John the Map if you want the best traditional live music in town. Breakfast is as good as it gets, served with what we'd argue is the finest view in Ireland. On a clear morning, it's enough to make you put the fork down just to look. Room 5 upstairs has become our new favourite room... but all rooms are spotless. We'll be back for number seven. There was never any doubt.
