My room was comfortable and clean. While a little "tired" there are plans to redecorate. Shower was lovely and hot with a super jet. Shower gel is provided. The duvet was lovely and warm. The room key is in a safe box outside, the access number is sent beforehand. This is very handy if you arrive late. Parking is just over the road, but you can park at the door to unload. There is a restaurant in the pub, everyone was very friendly and the food was excellent. Breakfast is in a different room and cooked to order.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, each with a double bed, desk, a chair and a TV. Tea and coffee facilities were in the room along with some biscuits. The en-suite shower was a generous size. The hosts were friendly and helpful, providing safe storage for our bikes. The cooked breakfast was good and the restaurant had a good choice of food for the evening meal.

We were recommended to the Star by friends who'd stayed there for hogmanay. They were right a lovely warm welcome, warm, comfy & clean room and a great breakfast. We didn't have an evening meal as we'd eaten on the ferry. But I was amazed at the number of gluten free items on the menu. Kim was most attentive to my food allergies for breakfast which was great, thank you. It was great to not have miles of soulless corridors from car/reception to our room, brilliant for less mobile travellers with luggage. The accessibility aids are sturdy and in the right places. The shower was the right temp and still had plenty of power. I also liked the comfy chairs in the room rather than having to sit on the bed. Kim and Nelson, we'll definitely be back next time we travel beyond the border. X

They allowed my dogs on Hogmanay and it was a busy ( that night )bar, room was really really clean and food was brilliant. Kim and Nelson are really trying to get this hotel going and they are doing great job. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed. Thanks staff.

Kim and Nelson the new management at The Star are doing a great job and we were made to feel very welcome. The atmosphere and food were great. The rooms were ideal for our long weekend of wildlife photography at the fantastic Scottish Photography Hides run by Alan McFadyen. The hotel is a perfect central location. Is certainly my go to place to stay when in the area.

Room was clean tidy and well set out. Warm welcome received in Star bar next door. We had enjoyable nite , staying in twyholm rather than leaving the village. The food was tasty, and would recommend the steak and ale pie.

Had a nice stay at the star while doing a photography workshop in November. I just needed a place to sleep after long days out with the camera. It was great. The bed was very comfy, room was nice and warm and I had the added bonus of being able to call in to the bar for a few beers before bedtime. Food in the hotel was also great, I had steak two nights and it was great, Sunday roast was not bad too. The breakfast was tasty and a good size portion, had to miss two of them as I was out at 7 and the earliest they would do one was 7.30. I did however get a pack lunch. Well worth the money and would go back.
