We stayed in a quad room for one night, 2 adults and 2 children. The hostel was very clean with a welcoming atmosphere and easy vibe. We parked our car outside no bother. A simple breakfast was included which was appreciated. A short walk into the city which was fantastic.

Cleanliness: 9/10 atmosphere: 9/10 Price: 10/10 Breakfast (included!) 9/10 Dorm/bed: 7/10 Except one woman in the morning that seemed to be annoyed of her job everyone was helpful and friendly! I have messed up my reservation, and they were still super helpful to reorganise even on a short notice. Thank you very much! The hostel is in the alternative area Metelkova, maybe 5-10min walking from the bus and train station. I did not find the area as sketchy as others said, but lively. It is approximately a 30min stroll to the old town. Or use a bike from BicikeLJ for 1 EUR/week. It is an actual hostel (former prison), not just some appartement that someone thought would bring more money renting to tourists than to locals. Seems like that is hard to find these days! Negative thing about the dorm: the ventilation system is so loud that it felt like sleeping next to a higway. Apparently this is slightly better if you have a lower bed and not the top bunk. Unfortunately, this system cannot be turned off; I received free air plugs after complaining and asking to turn it off. Room size is okay, proper lockers for personal items, although a bit uneasy to use (large backpack won't fit, so you'd have to take everything out). Top bunks should have a little shelf to put things like watch, cell phone etc. If multiple people in the dorm have suitcases the room will be cramped. I could store my luggage after chech-out, although in a luggage room where everyone with a key has access to. Did not use the kitchen, so nothing to review.

I loved this hostel so much for so many different reasons. The building is used to be a prison and they renovated most parts and kept some parts so you can see how it was before renovations. The staff working there was lovely, helped me a lot with my requests. Room was very clean, had a great shower and toilets also clean. We had this beautiful skylight in our room and we could see the stars during night. Location is convenient. It’s very close to the bus station and most of the tourist attractions. I didn’t need to use any kind of public transportation. Breakfast was pretty good. Everything was fresh and delicious. Even though they had a little concert the night I stayed there, the rooms were still quiet. It depends on the dates obviously but I think it was very cheap considering the location, amenities and the condition of the rooms. I am sooooo sad that i had limited time and could only stay for a night because they do hostel tours at 1 pm where you can see the parts of the building they kept as it was and unfortunately I couldn’t join. Still i was able to see some parts though. I would love to stay in this hostel in the future. It was like staying in a museum in the best way possible.

Wonderful stay in an unique place. Located in the “alternative” part of town in a remodeled prison. Lots of character, friendly staff, great breakfasts provided and serves all ages! Easy walk in to old town.

We had a great experience staying in the former prison. Our room had split level beds and bars on the door, and was very comfortable, with a view over Metelkova from the window. The staff were very friendly at check in, and there was a really nice bar, with decent Slovenian craft beer, and delicious pizzas, and an outside terrace with deckchairs and hammocks. Breakfast was ok, not the best selection, but there is a Lidl 5 minutes away with fresh pastries etc, so we went there. The location is ideal, 10 minutes from the bus and train stations, and a 15 minute walk to the Dragon Bridge in central Ljubljana. I also have to say that the shared bathrooms were cleaned frequently and had really hot, powerful showers.

Where do I start from blood on our bedroom floor to a full blow concert on outside till all hours. Very bad smell in the room. Very little sleep. Breakfast diabolical must have the same options as the prisoners. Area very unsafe. Avoid

What an experience ! Sleep in a old cellar that has been refurbushed. Place is close to the city center, clean, casual and staff is friendly. Of course, dorms are small but that's cool to do at least for a night. Nice breakfast, a terrace to enjoy some time off

I had a great 2 night stay here. I will give an honest review of different aspects of the hostel. Location: Great location. Short 10/15 minute walk in to Ljubljana / the castle. Supermarkets also located near by. Bus / Train station also only a 5/10 minute walk where you can catch the bus to Bled. Staff: Staff were very friendly and helpful at check in. Can’t complain. Cleanliness: The hostel was very clean and well maintained. No complaints. Room: I stayed in a single cell, which I liked as I had been in shared dorms throughout my travels so this was a nice change. Bed very comfortable and sockets/lights at the bed. Very cool room with lots of space. Social aspect: I didn’t find there to be much promotion of social activities, which is fine for my but may not be ideal for many solo travellers, possibly it gets busier in the summer and this changes. Food: Breakfast was included during my stay. I had some coffee/fruit in the morning. Selection of bread/cheese/ham/cereals also available. - there is also a common kitchen area where you can make your own meals, this area is quite small. - good spacious, and hot showers available.

Hostel Celica was a very nice place to stay in Ljubljana. The staff were incredible, and the free breakfast was so good! The beds were comfortable, and the rooms were quiet. The hostel is very eco-friendly, with cute little signs all over the hostel reminding guests to be eco-conscious. What that could have been better would be to have bath mats for the shower, as the water went everywhere... The hostel is a 15 minute walk into town, but a stones throw from the bus and train station. Besides a bit of water to clean up, I really enjoyed my stay at Hostel Celica.
