The Ballantyne, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Charlotte

Ballantyne Charlotte
I am literally still crying from my “special trip” that I had planned at this hotel. Flew in family (one of which is sick and dying and it maybe my last time seeing her). Rented fancy cars for everyone. Had planned a spa retreat for my daughters 18th bday and Mother’s Day for the women that have been there for us. I was a 15 year old mother, I was left homeless and hungry. I fought to be a mother, build a business, and my daughter and I had finally made it. I had remembered going to the hotel before for a dinner. I thought it would be a perfect spa day/special place. I am still crying as I type this. - I paid and booked in advance because the booking agent said they could accommodate us at the spa. I paid for the nicest room/cottage. Since we were just coming for a fun day/evening, I wanted it to be perfect. Which is why I went to a “Luxury” resort. I knew things had to be right and with a resort with this level achievements, it would absolutely be right… or so I thought. - First I had to call 3 times and several people after the spa reservation wasn’t made by the original person that booked at Marriott. - Upon trying to get the appointment at the spa, they had no availability and the woman was truly nasty. So I pay private people to come in last minute. - I arrive and the grounds are a MESS. Complete construction site, dead plants, trash, I was so confused.Nothing like what I had been promised or expected. It was a giant construction site. - The valet is the same person as the bellman. They have all these white men in suits standing around that are management while they make one little brown man do all the work. Let’s call this the “Legal Slavery” Marriott. -No one warned us or even bothered helping us to the cottage. This put us behind because we were lost for an hour in the construction. We missed out dinner reservations and had to eat my daughters bday dinner at some crappy place that could accommodate 9 people last minute. - We get to the “fancy” cottage/house. It disgusting. Red wine is all over the carpet. There are broken glasses in the bushes and on the patio (clearly had been there for a long time). There was an ant infestation and all of the food we ordered was covered in bugs. - Then I go to talk to the manager on duty on Sunday. Because I was crying in the middle of the lobby. He was dismissive and walked away and left me crying in the lobby on my daughters bday. The massages were cancelled and everything I had planned had been ruined, completely. - His boss comes in and makes excuses for him and comps the disgusting room that they shouldn’t be renting. However, makes NO attempt to take responsibility for any of the implications that their lies and laziness caused. Nothing was figured out, not only that but I had spent the entire time I was there trying to get things fixed, so I didn’t even see my family that I paid to fly in. I spent thousands to have one special day at their hotel and they sold me something that was a

Doubletree by Hilton Charlotte Uptown

Downtown Charlotte Charlotte|1.49km from city center
Very disappointed in our experience at the DoubleTree. We are Hilton Honors members and have stayed at numerous Hilton properties all over the world. Would never return to this establishment nor recommend it. Checked in after at about 5:45pm on New Year's eve for a quick one night stay after visiting Charleston but flying out of Charlotte. Stopped in the room to drop our bags and then left for NYE dinner at the Capital Grill. While eating, we received notice our flight to Chicago was cancelled for the second time. We were frantically trying to figure out how to get home the next day and found a flight leaving in 90 minutes that had seats available. We left our unfinished dinner and drinks, rushed back to the hotel on Lime scooters, ran and grabbed our bags, ran to the car, and drove the the airport. While my husband drove, I was on the phone with the airline trying to book our flights since it was too close to departure time to be done online. We arrived and were able to secure seats and make it through security with about 20 minutes to spare. At that point, I called the DoubleTree to see if there was anything they could do since we would not be staying there. I spoke with Dina at the front desk who seemed very empathetic to our situation and said how sorry she was for us, how frustrating that must be ”honey,” etc, etc. She said that sadly it was too late for her to do anything and that if we would have stopped at the desk, she could have done something. I explained again we literally had no time to do that, and she said I could call Hilton Honors and they would likely take care of it. So, that's what I did. Hilton Honors rep was great and said it was the hotel's decision, so they would call them for me and I should stay on the line. Immediately, I felt relief. The woman I had just spoken with was kind and understand and would help us; I knew it. Sadly, I was very wrong. Hilton Honors said the hotel was refusing to credit us. I was so confused-why would someone make it sound like she was understanding and kind when in fact that was not at all the case? That is so completely rude and disingenuous. I chatted with another DoubleTree person at 1am that morning when we landed, and she gave me the name of the managers to call on Monday. Today, I called and asked to speak with the manager. I was not allowed to until I explained the entire situation. Again, I was met with empathy and understanding from a different employee. She listened and apologized and said she would speak with the GM and call me back. I just heard back from her and again, they are refusing to give us any credit back. Not the way a business should run and not the way Hilton Honors members should be treated. You are much better off staying at one of the other Hilton properties in the area. In fact, the Embassy Suites in downtown Charlotte was great to us when we arrived on Christmas night and stayed open later at the bar for us.

Residence Inn Charlotte Uptown

We arrived to the front desk on Friday 22nd July to be told there was a problem with our booking. Note, this booking was made many months in advance. We were told by a less than helpful girl that the hotel had overbooked and that we couldn’t stay there. To be told this only on arrival was shocking. I cannot understand even if this error had been made, why wait for us to arrive to be told. Could they not have rang us in advance. We were travelling from overseas and were making our way from Washington DC to Atlanta. The unhelpful girl on the desk proceeded to tell us they had booked us into their sister hotel. When I asked her how far it was from Uptown she didn’t know. When I looked it up it was 10 miles away. We told her that this was not good enough and it was totally inconvenient to our plans but she just shrugged her shoulders. They offered to pay our first night in this hotel that was miles out of town but this still was not good enough as our plans were ruined. When I asked her how we were going to get there as we had arrived by taxi, she said “I guess call a taxi”. This was disgraceful as she was going to let us make our own way to this unsuitable location. Eventually she offered to call the taxi and they paid for it. Still this was a total disaster as we ended up having to get a taxi in and out of Uptown for the weekend at our own cost which was more that the first night paid by the hotel. Then I noticed that this hotel then charged us for the second night even though we were staying in the other hotel. We called back into the front desk to be told there was nothing they could do as the manger was not working on Sunday. We were given a business card and told to email Rushell Jones on the Monday. We emailed Rushell the manager on Monday and explained our full situation. Not even a reply from her to apologise. The amount came back off our card but the manager didn’t even have the curtesy to reply. Our advise is steer clear of this badly run hotel who have no respect for anyone.

Home2 Suites by Hilton Charlotte Uptown

I travel a few times a year, am a Hilton Honors member, and prefer hotels within the Hilton group. But I'm always willing to try out non-Hilton hotels, too! Pros - the hotel is safe, the front desk staff (Lolly and Phil) are genuinely friendly and helpful, there is complimentary gourmet coffee in the lobby, the room was clean, and the bathroom was nice and clean and stocked with Neutrogena toiletries. The Whole Foods in the next block helped me get healthy meals I prepared with the microwave in my room. The convention center is across the street. Cons - it is easy to miss the hotel from the outside, and the complimentary breakfast is starchy! In summary, I enjoyed my stay at the Home2Suites Charlotte Uptown. It is an excellent hotel with friendly staff, and I would stay there again if I had to return to Charlotte on business.

Both ladies who checked us in at the front desk were so friendly & helpful. We asked questions about where to eat & they reminded us that there was a free dinner in the lobby starting at 5:30pm. We thought maybe we would see if they meal looked ok & if there were good COVID safety measures in place. We were very happily surprised - dinner was small, but very tasty (BBQ pork, baked potato, green beans) the tables were cleaned, and the disposables gloves to use for the buffet were great. We even got a glass of wine with our free dinner - great to relax after a busy day so we didn't have to leave the hotel & try to find a decent restaurant at night.
