If you want to fully explore the Chengde Mountain Resort, then avoid the summer holidays and stay at the Qi Wang Lou. While a bit pricey, it's truly worth it. It's only a 292-meter walk to the main gate of the resort, and the hotel itself is a historical site. The Qi Wang Lou was built in 1750 and is the sixth of the thirty-six scenic spots named by Emperor Qianlong within the Mountain Resort. With only 57 rooms, it's like staying directly in Emperor Qianlong's grand study. There are even trees personally planted by Qianlong in the courtyard, along with deer, peacocks, and cats kept by the hotel. In the mornings, the deer roam around. The key is that there are fewer crowds and the scenery is beautiful; it actually feels more like a scenic spot than the crowded main resort. It's understandable if the room is a bit expensive, but the cleanliness really needs a thorough check. The previous guest's artwork wasn't even cleared out. Plus, the food is definitely pre-made, to the point of being overly processed. I wouldn't recommend it. The 'Kangxi Ceremony' show was good, though. Even with the 1288 VIP package, it was still sweltering hot, but the overall experience was enjoyable.

The hotel has a wonderful, quiet ambiance, and is said to be one of the scenic spots within the Mountain Resort itself. There's even an ancient tree over 300 years old on the grounds! Traveling to Chengde, I discovered this hotel right next to the Summer Resort. More accurately, it's actually part of the Summer Resort itself, so it's just a few steps walk to the main entrance. You can also take a short bus ride to the Puning Temple (Little Potala Palace) and the Panchen Lama's Residence, which is super convenient! Absolutely thrilled! The courtyard room offers incredible value for money. The hotel is super comfortable and clean, with a unique garden landscape. The staff and guests are all very friendly and pleasant. The eight little cats at the hotel are incredibly cute! And there are deer too! There are many fruit trees, and guests can pick and taste the fruit. We had some small cherries, and the staff said the apricots would be ripe in about ten days. There are only two things that could be improved: I smelled someone smoking indoors, so please enhance patrols; and the peacock cage is too small, which isn't great for the animals.
