Spire View at the Galleon Restaurant

Very spacious room, with 2 comfy armchairs and really nice lights. Shower was properly hot. Bed was massive, a bit too bouncy for our taste. Breakfast on the landing (continental only) was a great touch. But it was actually the picture of the Highland Cow that sold the hotel to us! The restaurant downstairs looked a bit pricey but there is a Wetherspoons not even 5 min walk from the hotel. Only downside, we wouldn't recommend it to anyone with serious mobility issues as you leave the hotel in the morning via a fire escape, which can be tricky wity luggage/crutches etc.

5 out of 5. Really comfortable and spacious rooms above the best restaurant in town. The beds are huge with no discernible split between the firm mattresses. The rooms are well appointed with comfortable and stylish furniture. Breakfast is continental served in the lobby upstairs, where one can make hot drinks 24/7. Too early yet to see what will be available. There’s limited free parking (5 or 6 spaces?), which was easy to snag as we arrived between meal services. My only caution is the steep stair to access the bedrooms above the restaurant. Pack light for your stay. Very helpful staff when we arrived. I would happily stay again.

Room was a decent size and very clean. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Really good location near town and a car park as well. Breakfast was a continental style with a good selection and tea coffee and juices available. I see a few negative reviews on here but ignore them as they are being petty. I would definitely come back and stay again.

Rooms are beautiful, just like the photos and spotlessly clean. There are just four rooms above the steakhouse, but they are all large rooms with lovely bathrooms. Breakfast is continental style and served on the landing but there was nothing missing from the menu. Location is close to the town centre but it was still quiet, except for the occasional bus. Great value for money.

Fantastic food & all round experience eating & sleeping at the Galleon. Proper local family business, deserves to succeed. Rib eye well recommended, as is the Sponge pudding. Tissington Suite - Beds comfy, room warm & very clean.

What a fantastic find. Room large, spotlessly clean. Breakfast is continental left outside in the corridor. Coffee, toast and cereal in bed was lovely. We ate at the restaurant and the food was delicious. Staff are lovely. The room was by the roadside and a tad noisy if you like a long lie in, but you expect this with a central hotel, so not a problem. We will return. Thank you.

Lovely central hotel for all the town .rooms extremely comfortable and all amenities tea coffee continental breakfast well supplied and available. Staff pleasant and approachable Possibly not ideal for people with mobility issues but everything else spot on. Beds extremely comfortable and in room tv and WiFi faultless

Chatsworth room spacious, clean and very nice room and bathroom. However, sleep quality poor due to road noise. Breakfast a cheap buffet left out overnight in communal area. Croissants gone so be early to breakfast and expect something basic, despite the room rate.

We chose to stay here after booking dinner in the restaurant. The food was good overall though the wine list was poor. My view throughout the meal was the end of a bar full of empty glasses and bottles of disinfect which may have been better kept under the counter. Moving on to the room,,, It was clean comfortable and spacious. The buffet breakfast however was appalling 2 loaves of Iceland bread a selection of jams and pastries in plastic and the cheapest entry level orange and apple juice. I was astounded to find this laid out as a breakfast option given the fact that the restaurant has such a good reputation. Having paid £150 for the room which it twice the price of any other night then we would of hoped for breakfast in keeping with the room and quality of the restaurant food. We chose to go out for breakfast rather than eat the rubbish provided. Fresh bread and pastries and a selection of good quality fruit isn’t asking too much within the price point paid .
