Just back from here on a Shearings tour holiday. Was greeted with a damp smell as soon as you walked up to the dark unwelcoming reception area . It does say it was recently refurbished but the reception furniture is featured in 2014 hotel pictures. Was greeted by Nikita who apparently is the owners son ,his attitude was not conducive to a good welcome. We were allocated room110 on the first floor.Room was dark and dismal and very dated , checked bathroom and found the door to the very small shower cubicle was broken and wouldn't close ,I reported this straight away and was assured it would be dealt with., Needless to say it wasn't repaired even though it was reported several times.A stain on the door looking remarkabley like blood was not removed all week .The hotel is situated on a very steep hill and in an area full of run down and derilict old buildings and closed hotels , quite a walk to shops etc and a steep walk back.It was advertised as having a pool but this was covered in a thick layer of green algae and surrounding area of terraces covered in fake grass was unkempt and looked dangerous in parts due to the way it was ruffled up and left to rot away. The food at times was barely warm and slopped in front of you by surly waiters .The various meals were all small portions and breakfast consisted of a continental selection of cakes and pastries, some of the cakes appeared every day for a week and the previous evening's dessert also appears at breakfast. The drinks had to be signed for but you don't get any receipts so best to keep a note of what you had to drink as some "mistakes" could be made.It was that bad in the hotel that one of the couples who were on the same tour actually paid for flights home after 2days. Later in the week we were treated to approx 40-50 young tennis players (10-15) arriving at the hotel for a local tournament,as these were Italian people they were treated entirely different to the tourists in the hotel. They were treated to being waited on at table and water was provided on tables whereby we had to pay if we wanted water. We also had to change meal times to accommodate them. The kids after dinner were running up and down the corridors banging on doors, when one of the guests went to complain they were faced with the staff and kids coaches sitting on their phones and paying no attention to the way they were behaving. The manager told one of the guests " They're only kids What's the problems" This hotel should be removed from Shearings brochures immediately.Only good points of this holiday were the two drivers Cory and Richard who worked hard all week taking people's complaints and hopefully they will pass these on to the powers that be.The coach was operated by Ripleys for Shearings and was not suitable for a long continental trip no entertainment on board and no WiFi which is even available on public transport nowadays

Stayed one night on a Ledger Holiday in October 2022. Having been relocated from this hotels 'sister hotel' I was thankful we stayed here. OK its quirky - with a mix of old school decor and villa type jaded opulence. Our room was on the first floor - a good size and we slept well. Access around the hotel was quite good (two steps to access the restaurant). The bar and wines were reasonably priced. Rose bottle of wine cost 15.00euros. On arrival we had a welcome drink and some Pizza bites which was a really nice touch. The stairwell is badly lit and needs sorting out to prevent an accident. Everything worked in our room and the staff were all very pleasant. The young man on reception was really helpful and spoke English. The lift is dated but works and its part of the character of the hotel. Food was good as was breakfast.

Very tired, rundown and dangerous hotel. No lighting in the stair well after the first floor! My son and I stayed here for a week recently. It seemed to us that the hotel had only opened up for Shearings Holidays. We felt we were only tolerated and not made to feel welcome. Everything about the hotel was dingy and dark. The bar area is reminiscent of an old style working mens’ club, lacking any sort of hospitable atmosphere. Dinner was not prepared or cooked at the hotel but brought in by domestic vehicles, ie boot of a waiter’s car and a mini van. The area around the hotel is just as bad, derelict buildings and closed up hotels. Having been to Chianciano twice before, I know how lovely the town is but no information was given to other travellers about the gorgeous old town, either by our drivers, Cody or Richard. Both great guys but had no knowledge of the area at all. Best to avoid this hotel if you can. Their own website says it has recently been refurbished but that is pre 2014. Don’t be misled.

The hotel is tired along with its very few staff, who are over worked due to lack of staff. The food is not up the standard required certainly for a 4* hotel, tasteless and sloshed on a plate just like a school dinner. Breakfast is a no go area, at times the waiter has to purchase more eggs at the shop, The swimming pool has algae and the green fake grass ruffled up is a health and safety hazard. It is unusable, safety rail made of bamboo unstable. The garden is overgrown and a mess. I am sleeping on a camp bed! This not worthy of 4* stars.

The friendly staff made our stay enjoyable in this quaint Art Nouveau hotel, I almost expected Hercule Poirot to come out of the lift! Although it had a slightly faded glory it was comfortable and adequate our rooms were clean and I enjoyed photographing the sunrise from our balcony. The food was tasty and breakfasts were a joy! We realised that who you sat with on the first night were your table companions for the whole holiday, so we hung back and ended up with a very cheery bunch and we not only ate together but paired up on some of the trips

stayed here for 5 nights recently as part of a coach tour to Italy and Germany. As mentioned in the title, some areas of the hotel were disgustingly filthy. The hotel sign displays 4 stars, but no way ! Bedrooms are basic, though we were allocated one of the few rear balconies, overlooking the pool. Evening meals were quite acceptable, once I'd mentioned that I don't eat pork, which appears to predominate on Italian menus (at other hotels on the tour, too,not only the Alexander Palme). Breakfasts were adequate, though not much choice. My husband and I shared 2 bottles of Chianti (listed at 13 Euros a bottle on the wine list) at dinner over the 5 nights; we had plenty of carafe water (from taps? no way of verifying) during our stay, which came at a price, about 6 beers and some coffees. When my husband came to pay on the last night of our stay, we'd had no itemised bill and the owner/general manager relied on slips of paper, clipped together ( including at least one for a different room number to ours') which he handed to his assistant to tot up, too-enthusiastically it seemed to us,: we had to pay 126.50 Euros, with no way of verifying this sum and no platform to discuss it.

This hotel has a special thing that is difficult to find: you feel at home, with your family. Cozy and clean environment; there are all comforts. We also stayed for dinner for three evenings and we were fine. You eat well and at an exclusive price. If you have the opportunity to visit the Posta hotel, very close but still owned by the same owners, do not miss a dip in the beautiful swimming pool and a cocktail in the wonderful bar. I have to thank Olga and Nick for their kindness and courtesy. For the sympathy Salvatore and Nicola. A super special thanks to the kindest ever, Abdu, always very attentive and helpful. Choose this place also for its proximity to the spa. We will definitely be back ❤️
