I wanted to give this place a higher rating. Our first impression was the room was nice. We came during a busy summer weekend. 3 baseball teams and a wedding party (Sat). The hotel was understaffed and disorganized. They seem to lack communication between the departments and among their own department. The teams had prebooked the rooms through a block, so the hotel knew it would be busy with kids. A organized hotel would be prepared for heavy use of the pool- including having towels readily available. We go to the pool- and it’s busy with kids, and no towels. I use the phone in the pool area and call and request more towels. They bring a few but hardly enough for the amount of swimmers. I call back the front desk and no one answers. Finally when the phone is answered, I’m abruptly hung up on. I try calling back with no answers. Someone comes opens the pool doors and demandingly asks who’s is calling. I said I was calling to ask for more towels. I shared that the kids had nothing to dry off with and were making the hallway slippery as they couldn’t dry off. A kind house keeper brought more towels, and said that was all the towels left. There was a huge pile of dirty towels and she advised that the laundry was no longer available for the day. She also let me know that rooms are only serviced every other day. (Be very careful on the pool deck it gets very slippery. We saw a few kids wipe out on it.) That night we had the meeting room booked. I go to the front desk to get access to the room and I’m told we don’t have it booked. I pull out the contract and show him. He tells me that he’s been off and didn’t know. The next morning we go down for breakfast, and apparently the breakfast person did not show up for their shift. The front desk person brought over coffee and set some stuff out, and then went back to the desk. No one was there to help restock food etc. the manager was MIA. We had planned on our room being serviced on Saturday, as we learned it was every other day. It’s 2 pm and no one has come by, so I call and ask for it to be serviced bc we had no clean towels and needed fresh sheets for my sons bed. They said they would bring some up. No one showed. At 4 pm, I see the housekeeper finanalizing with the front desk. I go over and inquire when our room will be cleaned, and was told that we were on the list. Unfortunately, the front desk did not advise house keeping that several team members checked in the day before, so the rooms were never put on the list to be cleaned. It seems like they can update some internal procedures to have a more streamlined process. If you stay here be prepared to reuse towels and bring your own for the pool incase they are “out”.
We had a great stay, we had a few issues with our child being sick and the lady at front desk over night had no issues helping us out with what we needed. (Ashley) is the name on her card. Hotel is under construction so when visiting take that under consideration. Breakfast was great hot and ready to be served

I don't normally expect to be surprised by a budget motel in a semi-rural environment, but the Budget Motel in Port Hope was a stunning surprise. It is a little off the beaten track, and is not visually prepossessing. However, we found our room immaculate, everything clean and proper, everything in working order: this is a place that is treated with love and care by its owners. I can recommend it to anyone who is looking in the area for a room for the night. While in the countryside, it is only minutes to downtown Port Hope, which is a charming town. I would definitely stay at the Budget Inn again.
This place was fine for a couple of nights. Service was good and friendly and the price was OK. It’s a fairly big property and it was pretty full for weddings and such. But with all the people, it was still nice and quiet as we were on the 3rd floor and no one was above us. My only complaint: Although this is a non-smoking hotel we always had to run a gauntlet of smokers at the back entrance (which people use because there is an elevator there). Why can’t the management shoo these smokers away from right in front of that entrance? Please…help out us asthma sufferers!
I will start with the positive the room was clean. That’s it. My family and I reserved a room here back in January and they had listed on multiple websites that they have a pool. In fact when I showed up google was still showing they have a pool. They don’t. We inquired about canceling our stay since that’s a main reason for our family at any hotel. They said it was within the 24 hrs and couldn’t be done without eating the charge. I asked to speak to a manger just to try and no one could get a hold of one. The fact that no one could be gotten a hold of was really strange. The front desk staff was not happy with us at this point and started to get rude. This was a Saturday and we were told no manager was available until Tuesday. This whole situation was a real turn off. The toilet in the room was tilted down and the seat wouldn’t stay up. I’m a dude so this can be a real problem. The security door on the south end of the building closed so slow that anyone who wants to come in could. The last and really worst thing was the lady working the breakfast in the morning. We have a family of 4 and wanted to sit together. We tried moving a table that was in the middle of a walkway to the side so we could all sit at it. She came out and yelled at my wife that no tables could be moved and to take it up with management. (On Tuesday when they get in.) While this was going on I was attempting to make waffles for my kids and she literally stepped on me twice while trying to check supplies around the food area. We also witnessed her pushing people out of the way so she could fill something that really wasn’t empty. Normally I don’t rate things poorly I only rate the good ones, but she was really the final straw. I will never come back and stay at this place again and won’t recommend it to anyone else either.
