Excellent
This was a fantastic location along our Circle Tour of Lake Superior. The beds were a little bit small (two doubles) so we got two rooms for our family of four, since our two teenagers are very tall, and because the price was so affordable (especially for us as Americans and with a favorable exchange rate). It was exceptionally quiet - I couldn't believe how quiet it got at night. Traffic on the highway just stops. It was a bit dated but it was very, very clean. Eli was super nice and friendly, and we would not hesitate to stay here again on our next trip through Canada.
As we walked into the suite, we thought: what a nice room! It had a kitchen with a table and chairs and the beds of course. Linens were clean and the overall cleanliness of the room seemed great at first glance. The beds and shower head were decent.. As I walked into the bathroom, I noticed dust bunnies in the corners of the room behind the toilet. Not too big a deal. It appeared as though the person renting the room before us had a bit of a poop explosion because there were poop spatters (or what appeared to be) on the wall under the toilet paper roll and door. I attempted to wipe the spatter on the door up... thinking this can't be poop but yes...it was brown in colour. I didn't bother trying to remove the poop spatters from the textured wallpaper. The ice bucket was very dirty with lots of dust and the colander was dirty too. I just made sure to wash it in the kitchen sink with the dish soap that was available before using it. Had I stayed more than one night, I would have brought it up to the attention of the staff but my stay was very brief so I just dealt with it. Would I return? Yes. Breakfast was good, great coffee, clean pool and spa. The staff was very professional and helpful. The pool guy took pride in his work. Overall, it was good. Housekeeping just has to pay closer attention to the little things.
GGuest UserOne night stay on a Monday night. Room was nice enough, breakfast in the third floor breakfast room was good - seems to mostly the usual pre-made food but the ”quiche” and some nice sourdough bread felt a little bit nicer than at some other hotels. Location seems just okay to me - the things we wanted to do were a bit more ”downtown” but I suppose that depends on what you are doing while you are in town. Close to the airport, several restaurant options and two Metro grocery stores. Seemed like one of the better Thunder Bay options we had available given the corporate rate I got.
GGuest UserMy husband, our baby and I checked in late when we arrived to Thunder Bay at about 2:30am The gentleman who checked us in was great and personally came to the room and offered us a complimentary 12:00pm late check out. We slept well, beds were ok and cleanliness of the room was ok. The morning is when the stay turned bad. We were awaken by the front desk staff at 10:45 with loud banging on the door. This was a very rude awakening especially so early after a long day and night of driving and needing all the sleep we could get. My husband let him know we had a late check out and the man went away. We then turned on the tv to watch the morning news and get back on the road. Well the tv did not work. Not a huge deal though. So on check out, we asked if we could have a bit of a deal on the room for the rude awakening and the television not working. I was told by the front desk clerk that he could give a discount on the room at the expense of the 250 dollars security deposit charged to my card. So obviously I didn’t accept the offer. The manager was there and I asked her if there was anything she could do about it. She immediately got defensive saying we should have told them the tv was broken and they would fix it.(I had already told the front desk it was not working and they checked it and confirmed the satellite box was not powering up and was broken). She then began to let me have it about how I wasn’t charged for late check out so it’s not their fault we were awaken long before our check out time and she would check video cameras to see what time exactly we were woken up. I told her this was terrible customer service and to forget the whole thing and we didn’t need a discount that bad. I remained calm as she did not. As we were getting in our vehicle she came storming out the door yelling at us that we got the 89 dollar a night room and that’s the best deal in town and rumbling other things we couldn’t hear as she had her backs to us at this point. This was not enough for this manager. We were on the road for about 20 minutes at this point and received a call from her(the manager) telling us she checked the security footage and we were lying about when the man banged on the door and that we had smashed the bed against the satellite plug and that why the didn’t work.(the plugs were behind the desk and entertainment stand… not our bed) we will never be staying at this location again. This manager really needs to learn customer service from her night time staff who were excellent to deal with.
GGuest UserThe sheets were crumpled like no replacement, the air in the room was not good, and it was not a taste. There is no elevator in the hotel, and seven or eight pieces of luggage are going to move upstairs. Speaking a little off topic, from Vancouver all the way to the east to the place, I found that the hotels here are generally very expensive, because it is almost 1000 kilometers to the east to find a slightly like hotel, all the way is a small motel It can be seen that this is a stop where driving must stop. The supermarkets, gas stations and restaurants here are very expensive! Come catch up with Vancouver.
GGuest UserTraveling across Canada for a move and when arriving to Thunder Bay we were left with no place to stay. And the few places that was left were way outside our budget or did not accept pets. Reviews were not that great so we were sceptical about this hotel. But we had no choice. We were amazed of the great service we got and room was amazingly big, very clean and no smell at all. You have to take in consideration that this is an old building so you do not get the luxury snd structures if a newly built hotel but for just passing by for an over night sleep, we cannot complain. The only thing that was missing was furniture as we only had two beds and a night stand. Overall we were satisfied and way better then what the bad reviews were saying.
