Alexander's Prison
天天边的海999Only the dome and part of the surrounding buildings of the Alexander Prison are preserved, and the rest has been destroyed. The dome is made of mud bricks and is divided into two layers, with blue and gold decorations on it. This dome is a precious heritage of Mongolian architectural art and inspired many Persian architects. Several rooms in the Alexander Prison have been converted into handicraft shops, where tourists can buy handmade bronze sculptures.
Zoroastrians Towers of Silence
天天边的海999Pronounced as Dakhma in Persian, it is located in the southern suburbs of Yadzd. It consists of two brick and stone buildings located on a small hill, and looks like two short and thick chimneys. Climb up the "chimney", the top is actually solid, with a small hole in the middle. Throw a stone down, and the time it takes to fall to the ground indicates its depth. You may not think that this is actually the place where Zoroastrians used to perform sky burials. The human bones left by vultures were gathered by sky burial masters and poured into the small hole in the middle. But don't be afraid, these two lonely towers have been out of use since the 1960s, and sky burials are almost extinct in Iran. There is a cemetery at the foot of the mountain, which retains the traditional funeral customs of Zoroastrians except for sky burials. If you pay a certain fee, the gravekeeper will be happy to let you visit and learn about their culture.
