Faustino Gran Relais & Chateaux

First I want to say that the ******* we experienced were taken into account by the hotel manager upon checkout and I really wish I could give 5/5 Good things include the amazing location and grounds. The building itself if stunning and decorated beautifully. We even managed to check in hours before normal time. However it lacks the finesse for a full 5* experience. We had to seek out staff for service for food and drink every time. We also had to search for spa staff too. The spa is ‘basic’and is over priced by local comparison. The TV in our room didn’t work. We also asked for help with one of the sockets in the room which never arrived. Room wasn’t the cleanest (floors and finger marks). There are a number of small but nonetheless important lacking details for the cost of the hotel that you would expect covered.

An absolute gem of a hotel. I couldn't recommend this hotel more. Stylish, discrete, friendly, intimate and full of surprises. The room (Number 52) we stayed in was fantastic (aesthetics and size wise), breakfast was delicious and the staff were fantastic. This hotel is beautifully designed. An absolute must if you are going to Menorca and well placed for some fabulous beaches (though you will need a car and expect a brief walk) and great bars and restaurants. Finding the car park is the only problem, especially if you arrive after dark, but once you have found it then there are no more issues.

Menorca is a beautiful island. Faustino Gran is a beautiful hotel, settled amongst cobbled streets of Ciutadella and beautifully restored. Breakfast was served in the courtyard and was a selection of local meats, cheeses, fruits and pastries with a hot breakfast offered cooked al'acarte. The staff were attentive and the GM wanders around welcoming guests to the hotel and wishing them a lovely day. A nice touch for a 5 star boutique hotel.

This is a beautiful hotel. Set in an old historic former palace, it offers all the charm you’d expect from Relais Chateau destinations. The entrance to the hotel via car is somewhat inconspicuous, as the hotel is effectively set amidst a walled garden. When we arrived the manager rushed out to help us with our bags. I’d advise anyone arriving by car to call the hotel ahead if they need specific assistance with bags/cars etc. We found them very happy to help. We were lucky enough to stay in a suite with terrace. The room and terrace were spacious and beautifully appointed. Our terrace overlooked the harbour and was lovely and quiet. The hotels pool and sun beds were in keeping with the surroundings and save for a Sunday (when many things close in Ciutadella) was not busy throughout the week we stayed. Drinks around the pool could also be arranged via the bar near reception or when a member of staff passed. Either way they were served very quickly. The spa and spa pool were also nice and we had 1 hour per day use of these facilities included. Breakfasts were delicious and the table service was excellent. Breakfast was served within the walled garden and was very relaxing. A very nice way to start the day. We also ate in the restaurant here in the evening, twice. It’s beautiful with subtle lighting and a live pianist. The food was excellent, especially the beef tataki which was memorable. Most notably about this hotel is the presence of the manager. A very personable lady who was always around, particularly at breakfasts, checking everything was ok. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt the manager and the staff went above and beyond to ensure our stay was wonderful. It’s location in the beautiful old town of Ciutadella is excellent too. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We will be back.

We’ve stayed at many Relais &Chateau hotels and we’ve never been disappointed. The Faustino Gran was entirely what we wanted from a top hotel. Great situation in Ciutadella’s Old Town and 1 minute from the harbour. The Faustino Gran is a secluded haven. Great service and very responsive to requests. We particularly liked the visibility and responsiveness of the hotel manager, who was very ‘hands on’ and really made a difference. We’d definitely stay here again.

Excellent service from A to Z, the property is definitely exceptional and very well managed. Our room overlooked the cathedral and the view is simply breathtaking, to be honest I wasn't expecting so much beauty.

The Faustino Gran is a beautiful property, with lovely staff. But it was let down by a consistently chaotic breakfast service, and a food a beverage offering that generally did not live up to the price-point or what you would generally expect from a R&C hotel. The breakfast service was understaffed for the number of guests, making it consistently hard to get seated and order a coffee, and on more than one occasion hard to get a table prepared with cutlery or a menu. This was consistently the case over a five night stay - we decided to skip breakfast on the last morning because (despite our lovely waitresses) it just took too long every day previously. We had high expectations of dinner, which we booked on our first night, but despite the lovely staff and setting we were very disappointed by the standard of food - far from good enough for the price and out of sync with the generally excellent standard in Ciutadela. Rice was seriously undercooked, burrata salad way too cold, as if pre-prepared and taken from the fridge. Similarly, it was sometimes hard to get drinks from the cocktail bar due to staffing, no pool-side service, and the same classic cocktails varied depending on who made them. There are noise issues in the rooms facing the port, where we stayed. While the port nightlife is out of the hotel’s control, investment in better sound proofing would help. Despite these issues, the hotel is beautiful, well located, with helpful and friendly staff who did their best.

This hotel is beautiful. We booked a suite while on honeymoon and were placed in one of the quieter buildings. The room was lovely, overlooking the bishop’s palace. What we loved: 1. The decor and general vibe of the place. It’s so relaxing and full of character. 2. The two pools are beautiful, and the underground spa pool and steam room are lovely. Guests can book for up to 1 hour per day. 3. Lovely breakfast with dishes made to order. The *******: 1. Parking is tricky in high season (we usually ended up about a 10-15 min walk away from the hotel) but the town square (max stay 2 hours) allows you to park up and drop bags off for a couple of € before finding a longer term solution. 2. There are no TV channels for English speakers. There was a smart TV in the room with Netflix, Amazon Prime etc…but it didn’t work. When we called reception to enquire, we were told ‘nothing could be done due to the age of the building’. But that’s okay, we didn’t come to Menorca to watch Netflix. 3. It’s very difficult to get a sunbed in the pool areas in peak season. Like many guests, we hovered around on chairs waiting to pounce when people left. Having a car to drive to the beach was an essential. 4. The hotel is seriously understaffed. On our first day, our room was not made up despite asking multiple times. The hotel manager swooped in and sorted it out late in the afternoon. We didn’t manage to get served a drink or something to eat by the pool during the entirety of our stay which started off as frustrating, but soon became comedically funny. There are supermarkets nearby which fortunately did the job and probably saved us a considerable amount of money! All in all, a memorable experience but definitely not a luxury one. We’ll look for an apartment rental with the same level of ‘service’ for half the price next time!
