I booked two king rooms, staying at the Shangri-La on my first day in Colombo and then at the ITC before leaving, specifically to compare them. The lobby is on a dedicated floor. My wife had her birthday that day, and I'd emailed beforehand – they decorated the room and provided a cake, which was a nice touch. Now for the downsides: the room felt a bit dated, the floorboards creaked when walked on, and the balcony door handle was broken. The breakfast service was just okay, not as friendly as at the Shangri-La – you can check my previous review for more details on that. Overall, it was still pretty good!

As soon as I entered the hotel, there was a strong musty smell in the hallway and inside the room. Opening the balcony door to air it out didn't really help. How can a hotel that's only been open for just over a year be like this? The bathtub was so dirty, with countless specks of grime at the bottom; it was disgusting, and I didn't dare use it. It seems the hotel staff didn't scrub or sanitize it. Even after changing rooms, the new one was just as dirty! Plus, the balcony door wouldn't lock, making me feel uneasy sleeping at night!

Everything was great! The only thing is that the connecting rooms aren't very soundproof, so if that's an issue for you, mention it to the front desk in advance. The location is excellent, and breakfast was good too.

Location is great, just beside One Galle Face Mall. Plenty of restaurants and cafes around. Beautiful sunset views (from the bar, pool, restaurant, lobby) and Galle Face opposite the road. Rooms are gorgeous and spacious. Checked in Dec 30-Jan 2 peak season. Hotel was fully booked. Waited in the lobby for my room to be ready upon check-in. Front desk said they will find me to let me know. Waited for more than an hour before I asked them again and told me that my room has been ready. Ordered some room service which took more than an hour to be delivered. Granted they told me that it may take about 50 minutes because it was peak hours. Upon delivery they told me it was comped because of the long wait. Pool, restaurant, and bar staff are all great. Very personable and accommodating. Loved the sky pool on the 31st floor. No bar but not as crowded as the main pool. Breakfast was great. A lot of choices. Asian selection is great. Pastries not so much, some didn’t seem fresh. Heard from some staff that it gets super busy from around 9 but didn’t experience any long wait. Plenty of tables to accommodate people. Overall a great experience and will definitely stay here again if I’m in Colombo.
