The hotel has a regular weekend DJ who plays until after midnight on weekends. We had no idea this was the case or would have stayed elsewhere. We requested a quiet room upon making the reservation, and instead got a room that is so close to the DJ that the walls are shaking from the noise as I type this. Truly nightmarish. There are no phones in the rooms, so to complain you have to actually go downstairs??? Don't stay here if you want a good night's sleep.

I love Copenhagen and am always looking for new hidden gems and better ways of experiencing the city. I found this boutique hotel in a conventional way - on the Marriott Bon Voy app - which surprised and delighted me as it meant points as well! It's a cool offering - a bit over a hundred meters from the Kongens Nytorv Metro (straight to the airport), two hundred meters from the Nyhavn canal, and an equal distance from all the great shopping and Christianborg Slot so you get tge idea, it's in the middle of everything. However, due to its position, it's not on a street that gets tons of foot traffic, so it's very quiet. The reception is in the bar, so don't be confused when you think you are being checked in by the maître d' ! The bar sits on the ground floor foyer, breakfast and dining up a half floor in a cute room that seats only about 20. A bona fidevwine cellar with great selections. There is an outdoor chill area with pillow seating when the weather is nice (take your room card, the door locks!). Rooms are smallish but not by Copenhagen standards. Well-appointed with desk, USB plugs, and a king-size bed in my room. Shower no bath. There is no mini bar, but they offer a small selection of snacks and drinks. Fast and free wifi. Bed was very comfy, and there was no street noise. Neat trick of hiding the flat screen behind the curtain. TV channel selection is a bit sparse, but all the app and streaming hookups are there, so it doesn't matter. Service is superb, from the front desk to breakfast. Young friendly and knowledgeable staff. Parking is available across the road in a garage. Well priced for the city. This hotel is a gem and a real find. Great for business travelers, but also for first-time Explorers of the city.

Very nice boutique hotel (31 rooms only) in the middle of the shopping district and tourist attractions. We were lucky to get an upgrade based on Bonvoy status. Rooms were very cosy and quiet. Service at breakfast was very friendly though quite slow

Absolutely horrendous service. Staff does not clean up anything for hours and hours in the lobby. Out of coffee at breakfast, you have to practically go to the kitchen to get someone. Very shortstaffed and looks worse than a youth hostel…. Online reviews were most definitely deceiving.. the only good thing that was positive is 1) receptionist 2) bed 3) location and that’s about it. Not worth the money can get way better options.

If you're 20 years old and enjoy the thumping sound of techno music in your room until past midnight, courtesy of the nightly DJ in the hotel's lobby/club, then you'll like The Socialist. But don't count on getting any sleep. It's a small property and there's no escaping the sound. The hotel staff are either badly misinformed about the music policies when you ask them, or deliberately obfuscating the issue. The Socialist needs to decide whether it wants to be a techno club or a hotel because it can't do both. I would not stay here again and cannot recommend this hotel, despite the good location.

My husband and I traveled in September 2023, stayed two nights as Platinum members. We had used two of our Suite Night Awards and was notified 4 days prior of our upgrade so we were initially excited for stay - the suite was supposed to have an outdoor terrace which we we're really looking forward to. With prices of hotels in general in Copenhagen, we had booked a regular room for around $350/night, and after reading the bad reviews we were thankful for the suite upgrade hoping it would make it worth the money (many of the bad reviews were regarding room size, so we thought we dodged a bullet) We arrive a little after 2pm, after walking from the metro station. We were told our room was not available because they had platinum members who had a late check-out; no problem - we stored our luggage and walked around a bit. We came back at 4pm and our room was ready (luggage was not brought to the room which would have been a nice touch) - when we entered our "suite" it was not the suite we had been promised, it was a weird two floor loft, no balcony/outdoor space. Small bathroom without tub - it looked weirdly out of the 70s with wall to wall carpet. We quickly learned that the walls to the outside are not sound proof, even on the 5th floor - voices, garbage, bottles, we could hear everything. When you walk in, reception isn't visible - only a sterile looking concrete bar in the middle of the room. No one greeted us. I had to ask the "bartender?" where reception was - she pointed to a small desk behind a huge pillar, not visible when walking through the door. Breakfast that was included in our room rate was just okay. Both mornings when we went down, service was extremely poor and workers seemed extremely disorganized - the first morning we finished our meal before our coffees came. The wait time was absurd. The second morning I asked my husband to go down and order our breakfast while I walked ten minutes to Anderson & Maillard to pick up pastries and by the time I got back our table was still empty. We had a late flight (5pm) our last day, so we asked for late check-out and we're told no... that they needed time to clean the room. I was sort of taken aback by this because we, ourselves, couldn't check-in at 2pm given a late check-out when we first arrived. Plus, it's supposed to be guaranteed by Tribute Portfolio hotels for status members but apparently they don't honor that. We asked for an extra half hour, so we had to be out by 12:30pm ET. The bathroom shower didn't drain and is "curbless" so water flooded the entire bathroom every time; we couldn't take back to back showers, instead having to wait until the water went down beforehand. Service was absolutely terrible for the amount of money they charge. It felt like they (the hotel and the workers) want to be this very edgy, hip place but fail to remedy the basics of customer service and the hospitality industry. We were glad to check-out and move onto our next destination, which says a

They cancelled my reservation as they were overbooked! I think there is no need to say much. I visited more than 40 countries; stayed in hundreds of hotels and never experienced such a horrible customer service. Just a casual email. "Nothing we can do as we are overbooked."

Definitely recommend against these guys. They are truly terrible - will keep harassing you with made up extra nights and supposed unpaid bill, or blame you their error. Stay away from these horrible people

Absolute worst Marriott Hotel I stayed in and I have stayed in the entire range of Marriott brands from Ritz Carlton to Towneplace. Before I go any further, hats off to the wonderful staff at this terrible property; the manager on Duty, Augustina and the front Desk staff Gosia did everything they could to turn the experience around and they are the only reason I gave the hotel two stars. Here is the skinny version and then I go into details. I booked the room using my Marriott points (80000 points equivalent to 400 euros for one night) and I would have been better off in a hostel. The room size is 14sqm/151sqt. I had one 30 inch suitcase that I could not fully open in any direction in the room unless I would block every door. I am travelling in Europe for 7 weeks so I have a large suitcase, a small one and a carry-on. There is no iron in the room. There is no phone in the room and the idea is to use the chat option of the Marriott app or Whatsapp to communicate, the problem is it may take a while for the staff to answer. The next morning, I woke up to the sound of the room next door using the bathroom, the walls are paper thin. You can change the setting of the AC but you can't turn it off! It stopped working and the staff had to fix it. The safe in the room wasn't working and there was no engineer on site. The lovely housekeeping supervisor fixed it by changing the battery. There is no iron in the room. There is a bar but it is only open starting Thursday. Now to the first world problems, there was no hair conditioner in the bathroom. Now I have very long hair and if I stay in a €400 hotel, I like to have hair conditioner. If I stay in a hostel, soap or even running water would be enough. The staff explained that the shampoo is a two on one product and "there is conditioner" but we agreed that a shampoo+conditioner product is a different product than hair conditioner! Also on the bottle it only says conditioner. They later provided me with a travel sized hair conditioner bottle, they could have had it in the room to begin it! The space around the sink was so small that every time I picked one thing, I would topple another thing! There's no water station in the hotel and if you want filtered water, you need to Whatsapp/Chat with the staff (only one person) to bring you water!!! Now if you are a wealthy person with one fancy carry-on and they don't need hair conditioner and this is the last room in Copenhagen, feel free to stay here. If your company pays for the room or you can write it off and you don't have any luggage, feel free to stay here but otherwise, do yourself a favor and stay away from this property. If you are familiar with the Marriott brand, this is a rundown Moxy with a facelift and half the services of a Moxy priced at 5 star hotels. Basically it should be a budget hotel in the €75-€100 range charging 5 star hotel rates and calls itself a boutique hotel! The Socialist's goal is to compete with the hotels of the Soviet Union.

The staff at the Socialist treat you like family! They are all so courteous and helpful. The hotel is located in a great location, close to many restaurants and shops. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. I’ll be staying here again.

This hotel saved our Trip! Specifically the concierge, Lourdes, made the whole trip fantastic! Background story, we were going to Iceland but our flight was cancelled due to storms and we made the last second decision to divert to Copenhagen. We booked the Socialist hotel on the plane to Copenhagen because it was centrally located. Was a lucky move. On Check in, Lourdes took charge and made us dinner reservations at 2 fantastic restaurants and pointed us in the right direction to get started on the trip. Periodically we checked back in with her (she gave us her phone # to text) and she kept us going for the whole trip. Although I am sure we would have had a pleasurable experience without her--she really (really, really) helped make our diverted trip a great one. The hotel was nice. Lourdes explained to us that it was originally an electric switching station and gave us a full tour of the hotel. Some of the architechural details are still present such as the massive steel doors in the lobby and the original concrete walls. Our room was small by American hotel standards but for our needs it was perfect. A little bit "everything you need and nothing you don't" Beds and linens fantastic, nice toiletries, coffee maker in the room, usual hotel mini-bar. (and no need to fret about any pesky wasted space between the queen sized bed and any of the 4 walls! I think the whole room is listed as 150 square feet.) The hotel was of course spotlessly clean (as was all of Copenhagen) And everyone was very nice and housekeeping was thorough when they cleaned in between our 2 nights. The hotel is located right across the street from a giant department store that even has groceries in the basement. Also a few blocks down the street is another "regular" grocery store. The closest metro stop is inside of the giant department store so you only have to cross the street to that store for shopping, groceries, metro, or even hot food and pastries (and they have several resturants inside and at least 3 (that we saw) coffee shops. I hate to recommend visiting a department store on vaccation but it is a lot more than that and again literally across the street! If we had been staying longer than 2 days I would have wanted a bigger room (did I mention it is small) but honestly for our needs this hotel turned out perfectly due to meeting Lourdes and the central location. Again, I have no idea how the trip would have gone without Lourdes but with her help, it was lovely! (I am rating the rooms as very good (as opposed to excellent) because ours was quite (if I did not say this...) small--had we stayed for more than 2 nights I would have likely wanted a larger one--which they have, but were sold out)

While slightly concerned by the views of others I decided to press on and book - and am delighted I did. I was in town for just one night, presenting to a parliamentary committee. The location is superb for most government-related business. I’m a Platinum for Life Bonvoy member with over 900 nights and was very pleased with my upgrade on arrival. Moreover, I arrived several hours early and the front desk personnel (kudos to Augustina) did everything possible to get me into my room early, ahead of my committee session. The property is well designed, well appointed and has many welcome, extra touches that make it unique. While the rooms are not big, they are well in line with what you’ll find in other major Scandi cities (I live in Tromsø, Norway). Unlike others I did not have mobile reception issues; ventilation problems; or noise concerns; and I found the staff engaging, effective and relaxed. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, which suited my needs perfectly, and I’ll be back, with my wife, to further explore this fantastic city.
