A small but pleasant double room with absolutely amazing views across the bay. Tea/ coffee was provided in the room but could have been presented on a tray rather than packed into the cups. Shower room was small but did the job. Very good continental breakfast. A quiet location with friendly staff. The hotel is in need of an update and decor change to reflect its seaside location and the local history of the area. Could be an amazing venue.

Decided last minute to book a night away with my fiance and found a great deal booking room only here, we were offered to add breakfast when we arrived but declined. The room was basic and could have done with a dusting and a touch up in places but was worth the price. The view was absolutely amazing and staff were polite and friendly. We will definately be going back again.

After a long journey from abroad we thought we'd stay here as we'd always wanted to stay following seeing the hotel on Four in a Bed about 3 years ago. It looked lovely with picturesque views! Oh dear, disappointing is an understatement. We were so looking forward to our night in Runswick Bay. We actually couldn't stay, the hotel is very tired and run down. Our room, a "sea view" room was lacking any sort of charm. The balcony was dirty with cobwebs, peeling paint and a disgarded carrier bag. The furniture is old, the paintwork is peeling the cobwebs are hanging. Sadly this hotel needs a full makeover with new carpets. £70 is way, way over priced for this room, breakfast would have been extra on top had we stayed. Sorry it's a no go area in it's current state.

We booked despite some of the less favourable reviews and with low expectations and had the most wonderful stay. This hotel may not be the most modern or luxurious but it’s less than a quarter of the asking price of B&Bs in the area that don’t have the mind blowing beautiful location of cliffemount Our room had a balcony and watching the bay with a cup of tea after a walk on the beach will be a memory to treasure. The room was clean and modern, the staff helpful and friendly and were truly dog friendly. The hotel is undergoing renovations atm snd I’m sure will be amazing with all the work completed. I loved our stay. It was exceptional value. We look forward to returning

Sadly this hotel is now grim, unloved and not looked after professionally. I don't think anyone cares if hotel is clean and not bothered about repeat business. Almost seem to be deliberately letting it deteriorate! Unclean in all areas. Had to regularly walk past piles of laundry and vac. Bedding old and stained. Bathroom dusty, dirty and mouldy. Old broken items dumped around hotel. Filthy door for entrance to bar toilet. Grim untidy dining area. Thick dust many surfaces. Short staffed. Leaving waitress to do all the work of many people. Noone in charge for me to complain to. Waitress told me to email Saram hotels as noone in charge to deal with my complaints. Would have asked for money back if a Manager around. Will sadly not want to return with the way it is currently run. They currently have this hotel up twice on trip advisor also under just Cliffemount Hotel. Put pics on both sites.

I had this Hotel booked for this weekend ( sat 29th oct to sun 30th oct 2022 ( Goth Weekend ) ….. I booked it last year !!! Has Goth weekend gets booked up early ! Then I got a email a few months ago SAYING …. Sorry you cancelled your booking !!! ….. I NEVER CANCELLED !! …. Tried ringing hotel on and off for over a week but no one ever answered ! …. Then a friend told they had heard that the hotel had been sold to a couple and they were refurbishing it !!! Surely when they took the hotel over they would know there was bookings !!! Has a matter of courtesy the new owners could have contacted everyone that had bookings and apologised !!! So I then had to try and find somewhere else which proved very hard has Goth Weekend is very popular and places get booked up well in advance !

The hotel is dated and warn, and this is clear, the staff were pleasant. The whole hotel needs a revamp - it's in such a desirable location but I understand covid/lock-down will have had a huge impact on things. However, we would stay here again, Runswick is beautiful, we had room 3, with a bay window facing Runswick bay and beach it was stunning! The other rooms at the back had balconies, if we stayed another night we would have chosen one. We didn't have breakfast so can't comment, we used the hotel purely as a last minute night away. The bed wasn't comfy i'm afraid :( but again a quick night away we can live with this. You could also smell the kitchen when entering (like the oil in the fryers), but seeing the layout I don't know what can be done for this. The hotel could be stunning given the location but it's not always a choice to pump £ into businesses at the moment due to covid and I totally understand that.

I rang up 31/5/22 to enquire about the room on 1/6/22 for a baby cot and booked the room through the phone. The lady did not mention the room was a non refundable room. The exact same day I booked the room on 31/5/22 I need to change my booking but they said i cannot because it’s a non refundable room. I tried to complain but they said they’ll call me back. They literally called me back on 4/6/22 after the stay which is ridiculous. About the stay the view was phenomenal but the room is horrible. The headboard you can see a head shape dent. There’s cracks and cobwebs in the room. The wallpaper overlap wallpapers. The bathroom sealant has mould and the corners have holes. The staff were really nice though.

The view from the hotel is fabulous and luckily something the owners can’t spoil, everything else about the hotel is dreadful. This could be one of England’s best country hotels, but a complete lack of love and investment has resulted in a sad shadow of what could be. The list of things that need changing is too long to mention ; safe to say actually putting a floor covering in the floor of our bathroom would be a good start. The staff are friendly but reflect the air of despair that the complete lack of vision or management by the OYO group casts over the whole hotel. We still managed to enjoy our visit as the site, village and beach are wonderful, but sadly the hotel is a pale, pealing shadow of the hotel we stayed in thirty years ago
