Bananaquit Tobago -Stay Near the Beach

My family and I stayed here for the 2016 carnival season and it was a horrible experience. Firstly, despite having booked our 4 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment 3 months in advance, when we arrived we were told the unit had plumbing problems and we were relocated to a similar unit with only 1 bathroom for 5 persons. Only 100TT given as compensation. Next, the rooms themselves are antiquated and dirty,especially the kitchen cupboards, bathroom and ac unit. In our 4 day stay,no maid showed up to sweep,tidy the beds or clean up. Beach towel rental is 25TT and not 10TT as advertised by the owner. There is no reception area and the property manager chooses to stay upstairs at her private residence, only leaving a phone number for guests to call when necessary. Finally,there is no pool on site since bananaquit rents the pool facilities from the hotel next door. When I visited, the pool was dirty and crusted with mildew with a disgusting oily film on top. My advice, save your money and stay in kariwack or other nicer hotels near by. This place is a low budget waste.

There are 2 sections to this hotel, rooms located in the main building and what appears to be a newer section. I was not fortunate to stay in the newer section but the main building. Firstly, we were offered an apartment upstairs the main building which was very run down, out dated and dingy looking. the other option for us were an apartment downstairs the main building, which was ok but the tv never worked and to make matters worse, over the 4 days I stayed no one came to clean the room or changed the towels. The bathroom was another story, it was as if I was staying in a village with an out house. totally disappointed.

When we arrived the bathroom was locked and we had to wait 2 hours for this to be opened. There was only 1 towel in the room although it was clear that 2 guests were expected. Ventilation in the bathroom is poor. The shower head was so low it was difficult to get under. The shower taps were leaking badly. Sewage was backing up into the kitchen sink and the stench was unbearable. When we reported this we were told maintenance would come and resolve the issue.- This never happened. On leaving the apartment we discovered that we had left a clothing behind and within 24 hours had notified the management who promptly replied that the item had been found and in accordance with their policy had been discarded "in order to ensure a safe and hospitable environment for all guests." It is obvious that this item ( a brand new dress) has found a new home In short this property needs serious refurbishment and I would definitely avoid.

Poor attitude from staff/ cleaners. Dog hair was present on towels provided. Receptionist was rarely available during operational hours stated. Kitchen sink had poor drainage.

The location of this hotel is good, but the rooms were not the best and arrival was not easy. My family arrived in the evening and the reception was closed, which was fine as they were given instructions to get in, but the gate with the coded lock would not open. This was very inconvenient as it was late, they had takeout food and a tired child. The number they tried to call never went through so they had to ask the restaurant upstairs to help. This could be a good spot as the garden is nice, but the room was too basic and customer service was lacking. My family only stayed for a couple nights but didn't enjoy it.

Amazing staff attention and advice. Comfortable and safe space for relax and enjoy. I'm strongly recommend this place. ❤️ ❤️️ ⛱️ ️ ️

I would recommend Banaquit for any travelling to the Island if Tobago. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. The location is great as you are able to walk to the airport, beach, restaurants and bars. Bananaquit is a very peaceful and scenic location with a garden that has beautiful local flowers and rooms to suit your needs. They now also have a restaurant on site offering delicious dinner choices. I will definitely be back.

Bananaquit was and will always be a favorite of ours. We love the location, it's literally a five-minute walk to the beach and Airport, close proximity to the Food Stalls, Restaurants and Bars etc., you're literally in the middle of it all. However, the inner courtyard at Bananaquit makes you feel far from it all. Quiet...peaceful.... tranquil. Our room was clean and tidy, and the staff was quite courteous. Bananaquit is affordable and comfortable with an ideal location allowing us the opportunity to enjoy our vacation without the stress of breaking the bank. Thank you Bananaquit for an enjoyable vacation.

Bananaquit is my go-to spot in Tobago for more than 10 years. Every visit the apartments are clean, staff accommodating & experience tranquil. The garden sets Bananaquit apart from other guesthouses. Close to 3 beaches. Totally worth it.
