Has gone downhill of late. We had a family get together for a very special occasion. Three steaks ordered of different cooking requests, all arrived the same. Meat very dry and for the price overrated. That was all that we got on the plate, chips etc were extra. Other meals had mushy pastry on the steak pie which is now a steak and sausage pie. Saving grace the parking was good. Last time I will visit this once excellent eateries. Shame

Lovely room , clean and well decorated. Food good and staff very helpful! Easy check in . Menu varied and very well cooked. We felt well looked after and would certainly stay again. Kilsyth is a good spot for trips to Stirling, Glasgow or Falkirk. You can get the train to Edinburgh from Croy

We visited with family members this Easter for the first time in about a year. Most of us had the Sunday roast, which looked fabulous however it didn't live up to our expectations. Portions are definitely smaller than previously & the food is quite bland. The Coachman always had a local reputation for huge portions, great value for money & full of flavour. Not so much now.

We went her on 21.02.24 to celebrate my ladies birthday. All the food was lovely and portions were good. Couple of things, although maybe just my palette, but there was a bit too much Dijon mustard in the Stroganoff for my liking and the Cheesy Garlic Bread had way too much cheese on it. Couldnt taste the garlic. It was a starter on its own. Tasted delicious, that said. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Staff superb and very attentive. Will definably be back.

Been going to the Coachman for years. The food and service are great; however, the cost seems to have risen quite steeply over the years while quality has remained the same. Despite this, we still enjoy visiting. We recently had the Sip and Scran menu, which was great! But it would be even better if there was wine by the glass on the drink menu. I love cocktails, and would have enjoyed one or two, but four is a bit too much sweet stuff for me. I got the bottle of prosecco instead, but felt like I missed out on a wee pornstar martini!

Regularly visit the coachman and this is the worst meal we have ever had. Fillet steak ordered medium rare , arrived well done. 2nd steak medium well . Advised both times it was incorrect but wasn’t offered an alternative and as my friend was already half way through her meal by this time I said I would just keep the second one Side “Cesar salad” isn’t cesar and isn’t pleasant. Was advised our drinks would be taken off the bill …. We had 2 points fresh orange lemonade and 2 regular fresh orange lemonade. Got the bill and only one drink each was removed, free slice tray bake offered upon leaving, doesn’t really make up for the £30 steak which was ruined twice, and only half was remotely edible but still hugely overcooked and tough to eat. Sent an email over a week ago regarding this and the feedback, and have been completely ignored . Poor customer service, especially when I was trying to avoid being a nuisance on a busy Saturday evening.

Visited the restaurant on a recommendation. Disappointed the menu only had three main course vegetarian options as occasionally I like a meat free course. I opted for the Balmoral Chicken. Apparently it's a known fact Balmoral means with haggis. I didn't know and it wasn't in the description "baked chicken in a creamy chestnut mushroom & peppercorn sauce topped with buttery mash". I love haggis but didn't want it as part of this meal. The food was hot and served in a cast iron pan. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy the combination of the haggis with the rest of the dish. The chicken was chewy and surrounded by the peppercorn sauce so it looked as though it had been in the oven a while. There was just too much sauce and the mash was really heavy. I manged half of the meal. Many restaurants seem to offer the same stodgy mash so I don't know if they are from actual potatoes or some kind of Smash. My husband opted for the sausage and steak pie which he found dry. He too was unable to eat the mash. Just our personal taste.

Have been going to The Coachman for many years and always found it to be good value, lovely service and the food excellent. Most recent visit was really different. 11Jan24 starter came to the table instead of chicken it was prawn tempura (allergy to prawns), they immediately changed it but the replacement was dry, and the tempura batter was so thick, felt like it had been sitting under heat lamp. Considering it came out 2 mins after the prawns went back it certainly wasn’t freshly cooked. Had to ask for napkins, had to ask for cutlery, the young girl serving was not that interested. Main and desert were good but possibly the issues at the start just felt like things are not like they used to be.
