Amaara Forest Hotel Sigiriya

We stayed at this lovely resort hotel for two nights while sightseeing at Sigiriya Rock. It was nestled in the middle of a vast forest. Our room was a two-story, cottage-style building, and ours was on the first floor. We could hear the footsteps of people upstairs starting at 4:00 AM, which was a bit loud, and there was a noticeable smell coming from the drains. However, the food was delicious (though breakfast was nothing special), and we enjoyed the refreshing breeze in the restaurant in front of the pool. Since there were no restaurants nearby, we included dinner. We chose from the à la carte menu on our first night, and the buffet on our second night offered a wide selection of curries and desserts. We had trouble with Wi-Fi on our second day due to a network outage, but it was fixed the next morning. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. Because the hotel is remote, we asked the hotel to arrange round-trip tuk-tuks to Sigiriya Rock and Pidurangala. Both trips cost 4,800 rubles. The same driver came both days and was a nice young man, but the local guide was surprised that the price was much higher than the tuk-tuks you can hail in the area, so please be careful if you use this service.

The location is on a small suburban road. We arrived in the evening and wandered around for a long time before finding it. The staff were very friendly and the hotel is spacious. The room facilities are average, and the hotel is mainly outdoor-oriented. We went out early in the morning to look for animals, but there weren't many, mainly forest and bird watching. Negombo and Sigiriya are probably smaller cities, and the top-rated hotels have relatively primitive facilities, focusing on outdoor and nature-oriented activities.

The path from the cottages to the front desk and restaurant is dirt, so it is difficult to walk. I think they need to improve it a bit.

I made a reservation around Dambulla to rest one more day in Sigiriya, and they let me check in 2 hours early. The staff were really friendly, and the owner of the restaurant next to the pool was really kind. They also provided room service, so I was able to rest well. The hotel was spacious, so it was nice to walk around, but I recommend going to the treetop. It would be really nice to do yoga there. I wanted to go to the pool, but there were too many Westerners, lol. They booked a taxi for me the next morning and packed breakfast for me, so I was grateful. The room was the same as in the picture and was very spacious.
