The staff were so so friendly and super nice!!! Told them it was our honeymoon and there was a handwritten note with fruits and snacks waiting for us on the table. They didn't have to, but they did ☺️ when we left, we were rushing for the train and didn't have time to eat breakfast. The staff were so concerned we were skipping breakfast she quickly packed some food for us to go and even ran after us to pass us cutlery because she forgot to pack some. Would recommend staying here 10/10!

The Yunzhong Chaoran Pavilion was newly renovated just prior to our stay in January 2026. The whole building is spotless, beautifully decorated, and comfortable. The staff make an effort to understand you, and are adept at using translation apps when conversation breaks down. They have a “Xiao Du” feature , similar to the American “Alexa”, where you can ask it to turn lights off and on, as well as to open and close the curtains . The receptionist patiently helped me to learn how to use it - and frankly , it was great practice for my pronunciation of Mandarin. Finding the hotel is as challenging as any other located where vehicles are not permitted to enter. We were fortunate to have a taxi driver who helped us figure out where the hotel was, and then walked us there. Datong is not yet well known as a tourist destination. However, it is a reasonably close drive to the Hanging Temple and the Grottoes, as well as the Wooden Pagoda. There is plenty to see within walking distance. The city space around the hotel is under construction- I expect it will become a lot more popular in the next two years.

Lovely hotel in quiet part of the old city but very walkable to restaurants and city sights - Slightly confusing lighting g system in room but fabulous traditional breakfast, lovely staff who are so helpful & friendly. Would definitely recommend

We had a wonderful visit! The staff was so sweet and attentive. It was really fun how they let my wife try on different dresses and take photos. The rooms were clean and they had all the amenities you would want. We would definitely come back again.
