Datong Jixiashan · SUNYATA Resort Hotel

I was drawn by the hotel's design and made a special trip to check it out. I booked the 'Elegant Residence Package' and was upgraded to the 'Daijunyi Courtyard' upon check-in. The courtyard was rustic and quiet, with a mini garden, and the interior decor was understated yet elegant. VOSS water was supplied unlimited daily, and I really liked the complimentary amenity kit. Welcome fruits were delivered to the room at 2 PM, and the fruit and nuts varied each day, which was a nice touch and added a sense of surprise. Turndown service was around 6 or 7 PM. At 4 PM, I had afternoon tea at the Yingguang Restaurant. It was a semi-buffet with an à la carte option. The champagne and tea were excellent, and refills were unlimited. The small cakes were a bit bland, and I didn't try the main courses. Afterwards, I went to Phase 1 for a photoshoot. Phase 2 isn't far from Phase 1, but the butler still recommended taking the shuttle. The photographer was very familiar with the best spots and even gave a brief introduction to the hotel. The public areas are indeed beautiful and very well-designed, especially in Phase 1, which offers many picturesque angles and is great for photos. The lounge on the second floor offers views of the Datong ancient city wall. The gym, pool, and children's play area are all in Phase 1. The children's play area offers three craft options before 5 PM. The gym and pool aren't very large, but they're great for photos. Phase 2 consists of independent courtyards, with only one public courtyard and the Yingguang Restaurant, but it's also very photogenic. Phase 2 is relatively quieter and all the buildings are historical. It's definitely worth visiting if you like the Siheyuan (quadrangle courtyard) style. The much-anticipated breakfast was also a semi-buffet with à la carte options, and I couldn't resist ordering a whole table of dishes. I highly recommend the 'Dao Xiao Mian' (knife-sliced noodles) and the steak. Although the steak portion was small, it was delicious. The selection of dishes wasn't extensive, but they all tasted good, and the quality of the fruit and ingredients was excellent. The butler team was incredibly friendly and enthusiastic, providing thoughtful and attentive service. Every staff member was outstanding. After check-out, they even gave us a souvenir. As my luggage was heavy, they specially arranged a shuttle to take me to Fenglin Pavilion, and the driver even helped load my luggage into the car. Such attentive service made me feel respected and comfortable throughout the entire process, making the price itself seem less important.

I came to Datong for two days specifically to stay at this hotel (after seeing how photogenic it looked online). I booked for two nights, but honestly, one night would have been enough. Even though it opened in 2025, the room facilities aren't well-maintained; many things are a bit run down. Maybe my expectations were too high. It's not great value for money. You could stay one night, take some photos, and that's it. While the location is decent, it doesn't really matter since taxis in Datong can get you anywhere pretty quickly.

Undoubtedly the top luxury in Datong! The quality is superb, from the architectural design and aesthetics to the comfort of the bedding and sofas in the guest rooms, everything is excellent. The amenities are from Guan Xia, the smart toilet is TOTO, and everything in the mini bar is free except for the red wine. There's no TV in the room, only a Bluetooth speaker.

This hotel has a great design, with excellent attention to detail and quality. It's a wonderful place to relax while visiting Datong. The Southeast Street area is right behind it, making for pleasant evening strolls. Even on very hot or rainy days, it's a comfortable place to stay.

Staying at Datong Jixiashan offers an immersive experience of the Eastern aesthetics of the ancient Northern Wei city. The hotel is located within the ancient city walls, providing a quiet retreat amidst the bustling surroundings. Its courtyards unfold in layers, with rammed earth walls and grotto elements harmoniously blended. Every corner of the public areas is picture-perfect. The butler service is attentive and thoughtful, making for an excellent stay. The rooms boast a premium feel, and the mini-bar snacks and drinks are all complimentary (excluding red wine). In the evening, a warm peach gum sweet soup is delivered. Breakfast is a semi-buffet, with local specialty noodles standing out. The hotel is within walking distance of the city walls and major ancient architectural sites, making it incredibly convenient for sightseeing. The only minor drawback is that some room lighting is a bit dim, which might be better suited for guests who appreciate humanistic design and seek a resort-like atmosphere.

Finally made it to the renowned Ji Xia Shan! I traveled to this city just for this hotel, and it certainly didn't disappoint – it's absolutely beautiful! The hotel staff were also incredibly warm, attentive, and always willing to help. I especially have to commend the complimentary travel photography session the hotel offered. The photographer was very dedicated and patient with us, and the photos turned out fantastic! Highly recommended!

Pretty good! I couldn't book a room in Deqin before, so this was my first time experiencing Jixiashan in Datong. The room was very cozy, I guess it's a Wabi-sabi style, haha. Anyway, I really loved the vintage, atmospheric texture. The public areas were full of highlights, every step was a photo opportunity. The food was also very tasty. I can't tell if it's authentic or not, but it was delicious. Breakfast was also great, a mix of à la carte and buffet. I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Datong~

The hotel's location is excellent, right in the old town. It's quite spacious, well-equipped, and has a unique design with Shanxi characteristics. The service is incredibly warm and welcoming. The housekeeper provided a very detailed introduction to both the hotel and the surrounding area. Highly recommended! 👍

The hotel design is beautiful, and the service is pretty good, though there's still room for improvement in some minor details. The restaurant staff, however, were excellent – attentive and thoughtful. The bedding in the room was very comfortable, but the lighting was a bit too dim. It would be even better if the amenities were individually packaged.
