Yungang Jianguo Hotel

This was my third trip to Datong, and this time I chose to stay at the Grand Hotel Datong. Overall, it was a good experience. The most impressive part was the breakfast staff – their attitude was excellent and they were incredibly attentive. I even made sure to get their names! I'll definitely stay here again next time I visit Datong.

Traveling to Datong with my parents and children, as soon as we got out of the car, a security guard (Shi Lei) opened the door for us, insisting we didn't touch it ourselves. The lobby manager also seamlessly took our luggage. Maybe it wasn't peak season yet, but check-in was smooth. However, I didn't see the welcome fruit mentioned in other reviews. We bought some fruit ourselves, and the staff helped peel it and sent it back to our room. We could also ask for more bottled water if needed. Since we were going to the Hanging Temple the next day, we requested a packed breakfast with bread and milk, which was enough to fill us up. On the third day, the breakfast in the restaurant was very rich. I'd like to commend the ladies in the restaurant (Zhang Xiaoqing, Cao Xiaolin) as well; seeing that my child hadn't eaten much, they even offered to pack a bread for us. The complimentary bathhouse tickets weren't wasted either; it wasn't crowded, and it felt much more satisfying than showering in the room. After the bath, the ladies (Zhang Limei, Jiang Jinlian) brought us water and towels; they were so enthusiastic. Overall, all the staff members were incredibly warm and welcoming. Although the facilities are a bit dated, I would definitely stay here again next time I visit Datong.

Extremely satisfied! The location is excellent, very close to the ancient city and the Yungang Grottoes, and it's easy to get a taxi. The breakfast was plentiful. The room was clean and tidy, and the service was great. Definitely worth staying again.

We checked into room 916 on the 28th. The room wasn't huge, but I was quite satisfied. The bathroom was clean and had a separate wet and dry area. However, the sliding glass door felt dangerous and looked like it could crack easily – I was a bit scared. I hope the hotel addresses this and replaces it with a new, safer door mechanism. The laundry room had a washer and dryer, which was very convenient in the evenings. Breakfast was excellent, with a great variety of Chinese and Western dishes, and everything tasted delicious. The hotel's location is fantastic. It's right next to a bus stop, making it super easy to get to attractions like Datong Ancient City, Yungang Grottoes, and more. We managed to visit 13 different spots in total.

The hotel's location is excellent, within walking distance of the ancient city. The facilities are of a high standard; although a bit older, they are well-maintained. The room was spacious, bright, and airy, facing the ancient city with beautiful night views. The hotel breakfast offered local specialties, including knife-cut noodles and lamb offal soup, all readily available. The local farm milk, in particular, had an amazing taste. During my stay, I accidentally left my coffee cup in the restaurant. Ms. Zhang Ruiqi, the assistant manager, went above and beyond to help me find it and return it to my room, despite the trouble I caused. Her warmth and professionalism were truly impressive.

The hotel has an excellent location with convenient transportation and free parking. The room layout is great, with a separate wet and dry area in the bathroom. They even provided complimentary sauna vouchers, which were perfect for relaxing and freshening up after a long day of sightseeing. The sauna staff were very friendly and attentive, especially helpful to the elderly. Breakfast was also good and the price was very reasonable.

The hotel is conveniently located not far from Datong's South Gate. The facilities are upscale, the environment is pleasant, and the staff are polite and enthusiastic. Parking is also easy, and there are plenty of good places to eat nearby. A very satisfying experience overall!

Great value for money, good environment, excellent location, and a satisfying breakfast (though there was a mix-up with our breakfast order one day, causing my elderly family members to mistakenly think there was no breakfast and eat snacks instead, essentially wasting that day's breakfast; however, it was corrected and we enjoyed breakfast the following day). The rooms are a bit old-fashioned but well-maintained, and our requested non-smoking room indeed had no smoke smell. The lobby offers complimentary bottled water and various teas. The concierge provides umbrella rentals, and while the hotel's own restaurant for dinner isn't outstanding, its convenience is a plus. These are all positive points. However, there are a few areas for improvement: we had three rooms, and in one, the drain was a bit clogged and the hairdryer had low power (another room didn't even have a hairdryer, so we had to ask the front desk for one). But since we were given complimentary bath passes, we just went to the bathhouse to shower, so it wasn't a huge issue. Overall, it was a good experience, suitable for those who aren't in a rush and prefer a leisurely pace.
