Datong Hotel

I'd definitely come back here again. The hotel offers great value for money. It might not be the most high-tech, but that's understandable given it's an older brand.

I stayed for two consecutive days, and on the first day, I just wanted to check it out. As expected, it lived up to its reputation. The breakfast had local specialties like lamb offal soup, freshly hand-shaved noodles prepared by the chef, and the freshly made eight-treasure porridge was also delicious. There were also siu mai, and items were replenished very promptly, so there were never any empty platters.

The accommodation at Datong Hotel Yingbin Building is excellent and meets the 3-star standard. I especially want to highlight the Chinese restaurant in the VIP building. The chef cooks for government guests, so you know the food must be top-notch! Picture three shows the mixed hotpot, and picture five is the 'Guo You Rou' (fried pork). The sliced noodles are also very well made, and the yellow rice cake is authentic. Overall, it's delicious and not expensive. If you stay at Datong Hotel, you absolutely must try the Chinese restaurant.

The room was a bit small, not as big as it looked in the pictures, though the square footage listed was accurate. The bathroom layout was also impractical, making it hard to open the door. However, the mattress was very comfortable, and the room was quite soundproof, so I had a quiet and comfortable sleep without hearing any outside noise. The breakfast was plentiful; the knife-cut noodles were delicious, and the lamb offal soup was also good, but there were no shaomai (steamed dumplings).

The breakfast was varied and delicious. The front desk staff were very welcoming, and the security guard proactively greeted us and helped us find a parking spot. Free parking was a great bonus.

The hotel's location is excellent. After all, it's an old, established guesthouse for the municipal government, so the courtyard is exceptionally large and beautifully landscaped. The staff, overall, are very professional. The rooms in the Yingbin Building are a bit small. The breakfast offers a good variety of options. The night view of Datong Ancient City is stunning, especially since wall climbing has been free since June 13th – that's a big plus!

The room facilities are outdated. The shower and sink area is only separated by a shower curtain, and both showerheads spray water at the same time when showering. The drainage is also very poor, which I hope they can improve! However, the hotel's surroundings are excellent, very close to Datong Ancient City, the staff are friendly, and parking is very convenient.

The hotel parking lot is huge, so no worries about finding a spot. The room itself was tiny and the facilities were quite old. On the bright side, it was very clean and tidy. The staff at the front desk, housekeeping, and the breakfast area were all very good. The buffet breakfast offered a wide variety of fresh and delicious food. If you're not too picky about the room's age and amenities, it's a pretty good choice.

Datong Hotel, once a state guesthouse in Datong, has a distinguished history of hosting foreign dignitaries, including visits from premiers and, more recently, a Thai princess and her entourage. This long-standing tradition of high-level hospitality has cultivated an exceptionally refined service standard. The hotel lobby is grand and elegant, and the rooms are spotless and well-maintained. Breakfast offers a wide variety of choices, and the service is excellent.
