Book and Bed Tokyo Shinjuku

Great for book lovers, as there are many books available. Lots of Westerners. The location is excellent, right in the heart of Kabukicho, with many restaurants downstairs.

This was probably my first real youth hostel experience. It was a mixed-gender dorm with people from all over the world and different backgrounds, plus a huge collection of books – though I didn't have time to read any. I just tucked myself into my little space pod and slept soundly. I'd definitely try it again! The location is absolutely central.

Honestly, this hotel is incredibly quiet – a top choice for introverts. It was my first time staying in a capsule hotel and it was a great experience. Even if you don't speak the language, it's fine; just show them your booking and they'll understand. After you fill out a form, you get your key card and can go in. To your right when you enter, there's free water available. If you have any questions, you can ask the owner; they're really nice. Inside, there are two power outlets for charging, so you don't need an adapter. The only downside is that the entrance is a bit hard to find – it's just two elevators, so keep an eye out for them. This hotel offers 24-hour check-in, which was perfect as I arrived from Haneda Airport by bus in the early hours. Staying here in Shinjuku is absolutely fine. If you're not used to local food, there's a McDonald's nearby. Seriously, I highly recommend it.

I arrived in Tokyo in the middle of the night, but check-in was smooth, and I had a great night's sleep. I chose this place for its location, and the atmosphere was fantastic. Waking up surrounded by books and records was the perfect start to my trip.

The manager is quite handsome. This hostel is just okay – there's no laundry room, and you have to pay extra for toiletries like toothbrushes. The location is good though, right in Shinjuku.
