Great old building in design and common area furnishings are appropriate with plenty of character. As for the room: Sure, the building is old and one doesn't expect a big room, but ours was too small; there was about one foot of space on two sides of the bed. Space to leave one suitcase open, but not two. Bathroom was small, as was the sink. The major problem in the room, though, was the owner's insistence on a period bed that required one to pole vault into it. There was a two-step stair left next to it, which might work fine until you feel for it in the middle of the night and twist an ankle. We stuck it under the bed. It was very challenging getting into the bed--like mounting a horse without stirrups. And the mattress was soft, softer than in most decent hotels.
Our room was supposed to include breakfast, and I assume we paid for it in the fee, but renovations nixed it. I asked for a credit, but the receptionist sloughed me off. I also asked her for information about two local attractions, but she couldn't help me. Finally, no one told us that we wouldn't get new towels each day, so we tossed some of ours on the floor per typical hotel protocol. Only later did we learn of their policy--new towels every two days. No problem--if they had just told us up front.
