Digby Pines Golf Resort and Spa

The people you meet first (reception team) are key to having a positive experience. Unfortunately the team who greeted us (i use this term loosly) and the one on check out were rude and lacked any warmth. We arrived an hour early to check in. I was very excited as it was my first visit in 50 years when my father managed the hotel. To say my mood was quickly shattered is an understatement. I was met with a very abrubt ‘your rooms still dirty’. No conversation about how long it might be or where we could go whilst we waited until we asked. We were told we could go to the golf course 5 minutes up the road. Baffling that a huge hotel doesnt provide snacks to buy through the day. Anyway, we went to the golf course and were greeted by a lovely person who went out of her way for us…. We went back to the hotel at 4 to check in, again not greeted with a smile, no eye contact or chat. We went our room and you could tell the housekeepers were probably stretched and the room was thrown together and it smelled! I went back to reception and explained i wasnt happy with the room. The new reception person got the more senior receptionist Barbara to come over. She didnt acknowledge me with an apology, just ‘whats wrong with it?’ Our check was similar. No ‘how was your stay’ no discussion about our bill. Just a rude person who didnt care. They are all front of house and i feel they need support and training if they are going to continue in the hospitality business! Saying that you shouldn’t need to be trained on how to be nice! The saving grace of our stay was the excellent service in the restaurant. They were friendly and very attentative. The food was delicious. We also spoke with the hotel experience manager who was very friendly. He’s definitely the kind of person you want on your hotel team. Lastly. The hotel really needs some tlc. Very sad to see such a beautiful building looking so delapidated.
Brier Island Lodge

We are repeat customers, as we visit Brier Island almost every summer to watch the whales, seals and birds. During our visit this summer, we noticed some nice updates to the room, and cleanliness was back up to the standards we have come to expect from Brier Island Lodge. When booking Brier Rooms online, the form states that there are no TVs in the rooms, so we know in advance that there are no TVs in the room. That's fine with us. We're there to enjoy what Brier Island has to offer. Wi-Fi is available for Internet access. We also enjoyed our meals at Grandview on Brier Restaurant (reviewed separately). As we say every year, we will be back!
