The Talbot at Knightwick

I booked a 1 night stay as I was attending a Xmas event locally. I checked into my room which was tired, dated and cold. On my return after the event at 11.20pm, the whole place was in darkness, all entrance doors locked so I couldn't get in! I ended up having to stay at another hotel!! Whilst I can't comment on the pub/restaurant, the room itself and the associated hospitality was poor. I would recommend avoiding staying at the Talbot for this reason. I won't be returning.

Pros: Nice friendly staff, excellent chips and a generous portion for dinner. Cons: Run down & dated, room was cold overnight, cooked breakfast was tasteless and watery

Excellent stay The Talbot had everything we could ask for. A lovely setting, good footpaths for walking dogs, good sized beer garden by the river. Room clean and comfortable. Excellent food. Superb breakfast. All the staff were friendly, helpful really lovely. We look forward to staying again next year. Definitely try their own bread delicious. Their fresh raspberries from their garden were superb also as well as their own marmalade, Top class stay. Good sized room.

Friendly staff, food good but a bit pricey, good beers. Room a bit tired in need of upgrading, especially bed and en-suite. Overall a very nice pub.

The staff were attentive and obliging . Beer good nice atmosphere. However after my evening meal of pork I was up all night with food poisoning. My wife ate the chicken pie , the pastry was soggy, the gravey had a skin on it . However the accompanying vegetables were excellent . With not having any sleep we checked out early 7.30 approx . Could not look at a breakfast . Just needed to get home . Went to pay my food bill ,no apologies about my upset stomach, no way would breakfast be taken off my bill . So sad that no consideration was made when paying my bill.

We paid over the odds as we went direct through the pub. The rooms were freezing the first night. Breakfast was ok, dinner, which we paid for separately, was middling. Poor value for money. The staff were friendly. The bedrooms and bathrooms were clean, but the towels were small and quite old. Not ideal if you are elderly, as steep stairs up to the bedrooms. Surroundings were peaceful and pretty.

Popped here for dinner Saturday afternoon, massive beer garden next to the river. The most beautiful setting you could ask for, surprisingly quiet with loads of places to sit. The beer was outstanding, brewed next door onsite. The reason Im leaving a review is because the food was absolutely outstanding, I had the steak, I took a gamble as it’s quite pricey but when It came out my jaw hit the floor. It was the best steak I’ve had in years, far better than anything I’ve had at renowned “steak places” blew me away, massive portion with huge amount of sides, it’s all I’ve though about for days after, I want to go back asap. All the food was brilliant, everyone of our large family was really happy and the staff friendly, great. 10/10 for our visit, can’t recommend enough. Splash out, have the steak, it might change your life.

The staff and food were exceptionaal
