The Chesterhouse

The hotel is in need of of huge investment to bring it up to the modern standards of a hotel . The staff was friendly and pleasant . But seeing the night porter in a Beenie hat didn’t make me want to to ask for something from the bar . The hotel corridors are smaller than a train and very awkward to get any luggage through. I was very disappointed at the room standard that looked like something from the 1970s Overall the hotel was like many others in the area and was way outdated . I would not stay there again .

The hotel is nice enough, well situated (apart from having to move my car each morning), but our room was very poor. The bathroom was tiny, with a badly fitted toilet seat, the bed appeared to slope down from the middle, the window was frosted out to block a rather dismal view, and the wardrobe was just inadequate.The bedside lamp is the size of an upside-down goldfish bowl. With the window open it was noisy; closed the room became unbearably hot. The room across the hall appeared to be huge by comparison, with great views, so clearly we drew the short straw. I can only assume that the good rooms went to those on bus trips. Breakfast was fine, apart from the number of tables reserved for those on bus trips; even an hour after their allotted time (7.30) and twice I had to insist on a table in the main room after the waiters tried to put us in the back area away from the food area. Just a tip to the hotel: treat all of your guests the same. And just ask at checkout ‘How was your stay?’ That could save reviews like this one.

On a 6 day coach trip and cannot fault this hotel at all,the staff were very attentive and always had a smile for you,food was excellent with buffet style carvery,with lots of choice,and breakfast the same we were in a room at back with only walls for a view but had a walk in shower and nicely decorated,the lounge area had new chairs and very pleasant to sit in,on the prom with lovely views.5 minutes from ferry,recommend to all.

Lovely hotel. Staff were extremely organised on arrival of our coach. Bags were unloaded and after identification taken to our rooms. Carvery self service for dinner was excellent throughout our stay. Delicious quality food and staff very attentive at clearing plates and offering water, tea and coffee. Tables clearly designated for coach parties. Our room (206) was clean and functional, but in need of a revamp. Very basic, with a tiny TV and a very narrow shower room/ toilet. Bed was a bit springy, but comfortable. Our room was at the back of the hotel so no views, but as we were only there to sleep it was no issue. Only one lift which held 4 people- very intimately! Corridors very narrow too. It's of its age. Great location next to Strand Street for shopping snd overlooks the promenade gardens. The staff made this hotel with their friendly and helpful attitude- thank you. We loved our 5 days in IOM.

Very nice hotel great choice of breakfast and evening meal self service which we like lucky enough to have a large room with sea view great team off staff already thinking of coming back next year we were on a 5 day trip with Caledonian travel would definitely recommend

Couldn’t fault the room with amazing views overlooking the Irish Sea. Staff were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble for them, always pleasant and polite, particularly Umah, who always welcomed us with a friendly smile .. Great choice of food and desserts and will definitely go back to this hotel.. The only downside was the motorbikes parked outside which started up around 5am. But for comfort and friendliness of staff this hotel would be hard to beat. Loraine and Susan. Caledonian coach tour from Glasgow.

I don't understand all the negative reviews I've seen. Went on a coach trip from the mainland and from the moment I got to the hotel, which was mid evening for our meal, 8 o'clock which I think is late for the staff. All staff, Mark, Jamie, The chief and others who I didn't get their name, sorry, were brilliant throughout the 5 days. I have a diet illness problem with food and all staff were switched on and brilliant. The head chief and the servers were so on it, best ever. Thank you. Would So Recommend.

I stayed in room 116 but was kept awake every night by loud music from a night club across the road until 3am. The handle came off a fire door outside my room and there solution was to wedge the door open instead of screwing the handle back on. On my last day for breakfast everything was stone cold.

Avoid room 117 or if your put in here don't expect too be moved even though there is availability in quieter locations in the hotel. For 2 nights out of our 4 we had absolutely no sleep due to Jacs the nightclub. Loud music, shouting, swearing, screaming on the street below us. A street light, and lights from club lit our bedroom up, Lasted till 3.30am. We we're a coach group off 38 on first visit to hotel so you would think they'd want too make a positive impression, but no the management were dismissive, arrogant and unhelpful. Think they need to remember it's nice to be important, but more important to be nice, especially if they want repeat business. On a positive note the rest off the staff, we're pleasant, polite and very friendly.
