Unfortunately, my stay at Mercure Dubai Gold District was disappointing. I have previously stayed at another Mercure hotel in Europe, and the difference in standards is shocking. It honestly felt like a completely different brand.
The beds were extremely uncomfortable. We had twin beds, and they felt like hard blocks. The mattresses were unstable and moved underneath you, which made sleeping very unpleasant. I woke up with a strong headache, something that has never happened to me in a hotel before.
Another frustrating moment was related to water. When we returned to the hotel very thirsty, we immediately drank the two bottles of water provided in the room. We then called reception to ask for more water and were told that only those two bottles were complimentary. This is quite ridiculous, especially in the UAE, where even much cheaper hotels usually provide complimentary water upon request.
The water pressure in the shower was very low, which was quite uncomfortable for me and made showering unpleasant.
The only real positive about this hotel is its excellent location. The metro station is literally at the entrance of the hotel, which is very convenient. The breakfast was also affordable and decent, nothing special but acceptable for the price.
