The traditional British-style building is very British. Suitable for tourism and business travel. Although the door is not very big and the lighting was poor last night, it is in line with British cultural traditions. Breakfast was good!

Booked 2 nights - stayed one. Booked family room given a very small double with a bathroom the size of a cupboard. Arrived in the evening so did not see anyone on reception - keys to room on desk. The staff (1) very grumpy (think Basis Fawlty) when I complained no other room available (except at the top of the building) which he claimed was inferior to the one we were given. Breakfast good however and waitress very nice. Decor needs seriously updating. We visit Ely regularly but will never return to the Nyton.

The impressive driveway approach and building itself belied what lay within. Reception area is dull and unwelcoming. The walk to the room (9) was accompanied by a musty smell akin to an old ashtray. We'd booked into a double room but were placed in a family room. The decor was 'interesting' - some might call it quaint or characterful, I'd call it unkempt and neglected. The towels, whilst very clean and white, were all damp and had to be dried on the heated towel rack (which thankfully worked). The pictures show ceiling stains, stained and damaged bed, skirting board damage, mould in the shower room along with a pull-down blind that was growing it's own life form. Carpets throughout were old, stained and looked as old as the house. And then there was breakfast; mushrooms awash in oil, tepid beans, one hard piece of bacon, a part-cooked sausage and a poached egg that did a fine impression of a hard-boiled egg. We'd booked in for two nights but left after one as felt the place was detrimental to our health. Simply awful establishment in every respect.

We chose this Guest House as it was great to park and walk into town. BUT I should have believed the bad reviews! The reception area was scruffy and stank of old smoke (despite No Smoking signs) There were papers on the counter with very personal details on them, so no privacy (although no proper check-in, just a key- fob that said breakfast was NOT included -5 emails said it was). When we asked we got a very dismissive reply from the lady who turned her back on us, walked away very quickly and muttered something about sorting it out in the morning. She led us up 2 flights to a scruffy attic room, despite e mail saying 'ground floor' (a random child had also been included in the price.) When we got back from our meeting at 9.15 pm everywhere was locked up, including the bar and no lights on anywhere. We decided to leave, as it was so depressing and didn't feel safe. I wonder if a fire-officer has checked recently? A display said it had AA 5* ????? Our photos tell a different story....

Nothing nice to say apart from save your money and book somewhere else. Checking in the man was very un welcoming and the place stunk of **** !! We went to our room which I can only describe as dirty old and worn out hole I really didn’t want to stay there but had paid £110 and was at a wedding that afternoon. At some point they had had a major leak in the ceiling and had thought it was except able to put wooden slates from an old bed on the ceiling. The wall paper was mind blowing and curtains smelt of stale cigarettes. Breakfast was included but we left at 6am as didn’t want to spend another minute in that room.

Very pleasant stay. I have stayed here with family members on several occasions over the years and we have always been well looked after by the staff. The rooms were absolutely fine and looked after all our needs. The food was very good at breakfasts and the evening meals. Couldn't fault a thing and will definitely be back when in the area next.

This place needs a complete refresh the room was ok apart from the electric shower which drizzled warm water. Do not eat at this B&B the food both evening meal and breakfast was awful, the poached egg on my asparagus in the evening resembled something that had crawled on the plate with a hard yolk the asparagus was tough, all the food served did not resemble or taste as described I had the pork medallion which was tough to chew, the sauce was watery the chips if that’s what they were were awful, needless to say I left most of it, the breakfast was no better how can you get wrong porridge?? How can you get wrong poached egg on toast? Without doubt this is the worst place I have ever stayed. I found the owner to be very rude. I would never recommend or stay at this place again, avoid at all costs.

This is a lovely old house so don’t expect corporate styling like a travelodge. Our room (9) was on the ground floor and overlooked the beautiful garden. We watched squirrels and a variety of birds from the window. The room does need a little bit of refurbishment but nothing that spoiled our stay. The beds were comfy with nice white bedding and good white towels. Plenty of hot water while we were there and nice quality complimentary toiletries. Well stocked hospitality tray with nice biscuits which were replaced when we ate them. The owner is a little quirky but we had a very pleasant conversation with him when we arrived. We were visiting family so didn’t eat at the hotel.

Like other reviewers, we arrived in the pitch dark. Fortunately the satnav got us to the exact point or we might have struggled to find it. There are light pillars along the drive but they were all off. Reception was unmanned and when we phoned the number left on the desk we were told we'd have to wait ten minutes as he was with somebody else. When he appeared he couldn't find our booking, despite me having the emailed copy. Somehow he'd put it in for the wrong night. He was duly apologetic, but it wasn't impressive. My wife suggested we leave there and then and I should have listened to her! I told her later we would laugh about it in a few years time once the trauma had worn off! The whole building is very tired. It was clearly a beautiful property once, with lovely gardens - and it could be again but it needs some money spent on it - quite a bit of money. Our room was ok, but very dated. The rewiring that has been done has been largely through surface mount conduit, which rather detracts from what could be a very splendid room - if the decor and facilities were updated. The bathroom was also very tired and dated and in need of major update. The shower took about ten minutes to run warm and barely achieved more than a spirited dribble. Breakfast was ok - the lady serving was very pleasant and helpful. The dining room could be a beautiful room with lovely wood panelling, but it has been somewhat spoilt by the health and safety required features. At £100 for the night, it was not cheap - so very poor value for money.
