Cranganor History Café & Riverside Château Reviews

There were seven of us, ranging in age from 86 to 18. All of us loved this place. The scenic location beside the Periyar, the well appointed, aesthetically pleasing rooms and the general serenity lulls one into a trance, where the only big decision to be made is what the next meal is going to be. Talking of meals,the food here is excellent and would put many reputed restaurants in Kochi to shame. Most of all, it is the wonderful hospitality of the staff that makes the stay extra special. Justin, Amal, Jeevan, Akhil, Zachariah, Devi, Anitha and Anish the head chef - they are all so friendly, good at what they do and nothing is too much trouble. This wonderful hospitality is difficult to come across. We hope to come and stay here again soon, God willing. Keep up the good work

Great view, amazing service and fabulous food. One of the best stays in kerala, the staff was really very kind and cordial, would definitely visit again. And yeah the candle light dinner setup in the middle of the lake was really really beautiful

We had a lovely stay. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating. We felt so well looked after. Facing the river Periyar this quaint and well maintained place took me down memory lane when I would visit my grandma for the holidays. With all modern amenities it is just a one hour drive from Kochi. We partook in history tours, kayaking, massages, yoga class, swimming (pool is awesome) and some delicious Kerala food. This woman run business is one you can trust for a safe enjoyable and memorable stay.

Time slows down at Cranganor! We had a memorable stay at Cranganor. From the food, location to the whole experience, highly recommended for a getaway. The location is a cherry on the top, with so much history around the area, you can chose to explore so much or just be relaxed and enjoy the place :)

We love this resort so much! It is honestly our favourite one that we've ever been to.It feels very luxurious and the amenities are excellent. The buffet available is incredible as well. The staff is very kind and helpful. Special mention to my friend Zacharia who helped us get checked in and was very welcoming.Traditional style spacious rooms were charm, neat, clean, well furnished and properly maintained. Facing the backwaters the balcony refreshed with breeze, beautiful sunset and mind refreshing. Always preferred for this place

What a gorgeous, serene property. From the moment you enter to the time you leave, the experience is beautiful and calms the soul. Justin went out of his way to make sure I was comfortable; Jeevan, you are such a warm person making sure the food was tailored to certain spice levels. Zacharia and Nixon, thank you for the lovely stories of the local region. The food was absolutely lip smacking and is made fresh. The airport pick up and drop was smooth and well organised. The rooms are stunning, very clean, very comfortable, they have everything you need. The first floor room had a to-die-for panoramic view of the Periyar and verdant green. The property has garden of Eden feel like fruit trees, beautifully done sitting areas by the water, and most of all, la superb team. Thank you Team Cranganor. I loved my stay!

The rooms are immaculate, the location is beautiful, the food is fantastic and the staff are wonderful. We absolutely loved our stay here! We even left our back gammon set in our room, and Zacharia kindly met us at the airport to return it to us a few days later. Highly highly reccomend!

A beautiful hotel in an absolutely stunning location. Rooms were immaculate and thoughtfully decorated without being over the top. The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Food was delicious. Great to see real thought being put into making the hotel as sustainable as possible. It’s a small hotel, so we enjoyed a really personal service and they went the extra mile to courier my partners phone back when he left it in the taxi. Such a relaxing vibe - plenty of places to chill out in peace - we had fun trying to use the hammocks ☺️ We all loved the pool and enjoyed the incredible view. Don’t hesitate, just book it! And be sure to go on the sunset boat trip. We’ll take away such treasured memories.

The location, room with large balcony overlooking the river , view , pool are all outstanding but the management and staff are at another level, first class service all round from customer focused management, restaurant staff , room maids , gardeners , chefs and security , one great team who simply cannot do enough to ensure that your stay is some thing to never forget for all the right reasons and always with a smile.

Absolutely magical spot right on the banks of the legendary Periyar River and close to historically significant sites. If you want to spend your vacation in total relaxation (hammocks and ancient Indian massages with stunning views, delicious Kerala food and friendly fast service) this is the place for you. My frail 87 year old mother and I stayed here after a very long journey from the U.S. to rest up before heading on to our house a few hours away by car. The accommodating manager Justin booked our taxis and even arranged for a wheelchair. Akhil met us at the car with the chair at 3am when we got to the resort. Even at that late hour he was ready to bring us food—mummy actually asked for ice cream and got it! But it’s only after we woke up in our smartly designed room with a private patio that we realized how lucky we were. Shout out to the super staff Jeevan, Zachariah, the ladies in the kitchen, the cleaners, and the gardeners who are the heart of the place. Thank you all!

I can’t recommend this place highly enough. It was our first and last accommodation during our 2 week travels in Kerala. The pool next to the lazy river will now be on my little list of happy places! The room we stayed in (red/green) was large and light and the bed was very comfortable. Loved the rainforest shower, which was partially outdoors. The food was excellent and the service very attentive and friendly.

Wow, what a find. Stayed here with family and the 4 of us absolutely loved it. The setting is amazing with wonderful views over the Periyar river. We loved the heritage feel of the stylish green and black room - large and comfortable with plenty of storage space and a big comfy bed. The partially outside bathroom was great too , as was the terrace overlooking the river, from where we could watch all the birds. The food was really excellent, and my sister particularly enjoyed the king fish. We gave the chef and kitchen Staff a round of applause when we left!! The system of offering a wide menu choice and ordering a few hours in advance worked really well All the staff were lovely, and we thank Justin for his patience with my many email enquiries ( although the process for securing the booking did seem unnecessarily complicated?). Also Amal, Jeevan and Anish for looking after us so well on a day to day basis, arranging boat trips, sightseeing trips, and excellent Ayurvedic massages. Justin also arranged a seamless pick up from Kochi airport. Cranganor does not offer alcohol, but they are happy for you to bring your own, or will send a rickshaw to the nearest liquor store for your required purchases. This is such an amazing place to stay. My daughter and I absolutely fell in love with it. It so peaceful and the views are incredible. The rooms have a lot of character, are tastefully simple and clean. The staff and service is second to none. Justin and all the staff are attentive, friendly and helpful. I highly recommend staying here. It is like paradise and we didn’t want to leave.

When we arrived at Cochin we were somehow annoyed how long it took to get to this place from the airport (okay, I have not checked the distance to Cochin in advance; my mistake). However, in the moment we arrived at the hotel everything was forgotten. This very small hotel is located directly at the waterfront with a hugh infinity pool. Our really nice rooms were located directly at this beautiful pool. Just walk out the room and jump into the pool. One of our rooms had a open-air bathroom which we loved. Since there is nothing around, we decided to have dinner at the hotel. The best decision we could make. The food was so delicious that we decided to have dinner there the next day again without checking alternatives in Cochin. Everything was homemade and sooo tasty. It should be considered that it is a more than hour drive to Cochin, i.e. you need a car / driver and driving time. However, we liked this place so much, that we had no problem with the driving time. We felt so happy to be back after our sightseeing trip to Cochin.
