North Star Cottage

The cabin was large, spacious, and clean. Beds were comfortable and private with 2 separate bedrooms. We enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend this property.

I did not get email from the property informing me about check-in instructions as indicated in the booking confirmation email. The cottages (North Star) do not have a common reception desk and check-in instructions are to be provided by email. When called myself and also got involved the Avion RBC visa representative, using the phone number for North Star Cottage many times, no one picked up the phone. I did not take a risk to drive all way from Keflavik to the cottage as originally planned as I did not have on hand check in details. I did not want to put at risk my family of not being able to check in and being stagnant in the Southern part of Iceland. I had to change all my travel arrangements which ruined all my dreams when I was planning to travel to Iceland. Whoever owns the property, is not reliable at all. I strongly recommend to take down this cottage from the booking options through RBC Avion, as the cottage is very poorly managed and this can compromise Avion services. I am very disappointed. As suggested by the RBC Avion representative, I am going to file a claim and request reimbursement for all additional costs I had to pay out of pocket associated with this issue.

It's a cute little cabin. It surprised me how good it was. The construction seems new. It has 3 beds with comfortable clean blankets. The only suggestion is : the water is beige and has a bad smell.

The property was clean, quiet and the area was picturesque. However, even though the property was just off a major roadway, we had some difficulty in locating it. What little signage existed was small and hard to read, especially for those of us who were first time visitors to Iceland.

This property had basic amenities and is ideal for folks who want to detach themselves from their busy schedule, internet et al. I would have preferred a bit more.

While international understand this is a cottage, the service was horrible. We stayed 2 nights- we were not provided with toilet paper or paper towels and the sheets were dirty. If this was an inexpensive option I wouldn’t have complained-however this was the most expensive place we stayed and the worst conditions

Did not get the announced email 24h before the stay. Had to call a phone number which was visible only at the site. 24h uncertainty if the booking was ok. Only 1 knife and no small spoons in a house for four. 30km to the next supermarket was known but still uncomfortable.

Almost no internet signals! Hard to control the water and cold water, so taking shower was a terrible experience. Smelly sink. 5/6 flies was inside, my husband spent 30 mins trying to get them out, then gave up.

I booked in May through *********** and selected direct payment to North Star Cottage at 260,00€. July is peak season and very few other accomodation are offered in the area. 2 days before check-in they claimed my cc was rejected. My MasterCard still had funds but I change it with my husband's. It also had funds but was also rejected. New message and new Amex added via ***********. Both boking.com and North Star contacted in the meantime but could not support: I suggested to find other forma of payment but could not accept and did not accept to switch payment through ***********. Also Amex was rejected, al thought all 3 cc had plenty of funds reservation was cancelled the evening before arrival. The cottage was immediately available again for sale on *********** at 486€. I had two minor kids with me and could not run the risk to sleep in the car: I booked again via *********** with payment through *********** using one of the 3 cc their claimed they tried to charge and magically payment was successfull at nearly double the price! Once back I tried to obtain refund of 226€ extra charge but it was refused, both by *********** and from North Star which did not even answer (to me and to *********** itself) *********** demand evidence of the charge attempt from the cc service provider, which I contacted: they cannot provide any evidence or declaration. Cottage was also probably the worst accomodation I was in during one week trip around Iceland. Stay away!
