We stayed with our small dog from the moment we arrived we were made feel very welcome Maddy at reception gave good advice regarding getting out and about thanks for taking our pic as we were leaving. Iona in the restaurant was friendly and attentive to all those dining. Paul & Dan in the Riverside bar were great with our puppy and again good local knowledge while being very attentive to customers. We were in room 14 it was spacious, quiet and had all the facilities we needed. There are plenty lovely walks, places to visit we never used our car, we walked or local bus is a good service. Riverside bar serves lovely food in typical country pub setting. The hotel formal dining room offers nice food but as restaurant is large bit dated and not used as much as bar we dined once but felt as it lacked atmosphere riverside bar was our preferred option. Unlike many hotels that claim to be dog friendly and then dog must stay in room that is not the case in the Scafell Hotel they really are dog friendly as well behaved dogs can sit in lounge area and be with us in Riverside bar. Pros Friendly helpful staff Very dog friendly Clean Good Location Nice food Cons No wifi signal unless with 02 (We loved not having phone for days) No handrail for stepping in/out of deep bath

Clean hotel, staff friendly however... restaurant prices high, book in advance and minimum order of 2 courses so we ate in Keswick whilst visiting. Plenty of places to walk with dogs, very friendly dog hotel.

I have just spent a few lovely days at the Scafell Hotel with my friend and our 2 Springer Spaniels. The hotel is in need of some TLC but this did not detract from the warmth of our welcome from Katie, the receptionist. The rooms are a good size and clean and comfortable, the food is really excellent and all of the staff were friendly and helpful. Best of all, they all seemed to be genuine dog lovers and owners. This hotel has a lovely atmosphere and we felt really at home there. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and special thanks goes to Katie and Aiona who went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. If you are looking for a base in the lakes this is ideal, especially if you are travelling with dogs.

We loved the location of the property and the grounds…. Our room was comfortable and practical, although it looked a bit tired in places I think it just added to the character of the place… We will be back

Gorgeous setting at the end of the Borrowdale Valley, with a stream running close to the hotel. Rooms warm, well-appointed and bed very confortable. Excellent breakfast and evening meal in the Riverside Bar very good too - good local beers as well.

This is a very different review. Myself and my partner were resident in the hotel next to Scafell hotel. Now don't lose interest because this is a rave review about the hospitality and genuinely excellent service from a particular Lady called Katie that works on Reception. Firstly we were in dire straits as our car had literally died on us in a flood that was approximately 3ft deep. We ere actually booked in the hotel next door (but not a lot of empathy was awarded to us at the hotel we actually were residents in). However, if ever we needed a Guardian Angel we found her at the Scafell Reception. Katie has an amazing empathy, a beautiful warm personality but extremely professional and helpful in our awful predicament. If any member of Customer services deserves an award for above and beyond it is this wonderful lady.

This is a grand old hotel in the heart of Borrowdale Valley. My husband and I took advantage of a special two night deal complete with plentiful and delicious breakfasts and one very good three course dinner. Our room was spacious with a super old bathtub in the en-suite bathroom. The staff were all very friendly and eager to help in any way they could. We had a lovely time experiencing the great outdoors in spite of the all day wet conditions. The valley is huge with a beautiful rushing river very near to the hotel. I highly recommend a stay at this hotel in its splendid Lake District surroundings.

This is an amazing hotel, fantastic bed and great bath to relax in after walking all day. Staff were fantastic, very friendly, helpful and informative of the area. We had to order room service (additional charge) as we had 2 dogs with us, it would have been nice to eat in the restaurant.
