It is a hotel reused in an old monastery. It is a special experience. However, the design of the old building designer is not good enough. The route to the room is strange and inconvenient, and the sizes of the same room type are different. However, the new building does not have this problem, and it is very large, with a large terrace to enjoy the surrounding nature. Before our dinner, a group reserved the restaurant. I wonder if the chef was tired because of this, which made our dinner very unpalatable. This should not be the quality of pousada meals.

This is our second visit. The hotel is very nice, rooms quite big and everything was impecably clean. The reception, Joao, was very friendly and helpfull. Breakfast was good value. The sraff at the restaurant, Lucy and João were absolutely fantastic. My daughter woke up late for breakfast, and when I ask for just a cup of coffee, they told my daughter to come up for the breakfast and brought everything she wanted to eat. Dinner was also very good. A very special place to spend some quality time with family.

This hotel has everything to make you feel special. From a warm welcome to a hesitant goodbye. A relaxing spa, a clean 7 x 20 m outdoor pool, comfortable beds and bathroom and much more. But above all, the very friendly staff that goes the extra mile ...

Truly outstanding experience, beautiful place and impeccable team to host us. The restaurant was fantastic for both breakfast and dinner. Lots of things to do in the surroundings, visit Alter, Marvão, Castelo de vide and Portalegre.

We had an enjoyable four nights at the hotel staying in what is the new wing. Lovely view over fields with sheep and goats and hence very quiet which was what we wanted. The bed was large and very comfortable and the room was clean. Staff were friendly and spoke good English. The breakfast buffet was expansive and decent quality. There are a few things that could be done to make the stay more enjoyable though. First, the wood floor in the lobby area of the room was loose and creaked every time we walked on it. It was odd that this hadn't been attended to. Second, the provision of a kettle with tea, coffee and cups would make a big difference. When you arrive back after a day out it really is nice to be able to make a cup of tea and relax. Instead, it was necessary to go to the bar and either wait to be served or find a member of staff to take the order. Yes, the hotel gets the revenue from selling you the drink but relative to the goodwill created by putting a kettle in the room it's minimal. Third, the food in the restaurant for dinner was fine, not spectacular. However, there seemed to be a bizarre approach in that we were given the menu, the order taken (including the drinks order) and bread and olives arrive but no drinks! Half an hour later I had to find the waitress to ask where my wife's G&T was. The response was that "The staff are busy." This was repeated the second night albeit with a shorter wait. In any restaurant or hotel I've been in the drinks are normally served first. Strange. The above may seem trivial but they detracted from an otherwise enjoyable stay and suggests a hotel that needs to work a bit harder on the basics. Would we come back? Probably not.

what a great pousada in central Portugal. makes a great stop if traveling from the north to the Algarve. i certainly wish that time allowed a longer stay. the village is quite small and the hotel is surrounded by farm land. the building was originally a monastery in the 1400's. it is a national monument. stone walls, high ceilings, and very a**ospheric. property includes a small museum & panels with building history. staff at check in was so welcoming. the desk man insisted on carrying our bags not only into the hotel, but to our room on the second floor. miraculously there is an elevator. the hotel feels huge due to the many lounging areas for guests and the maze of passages. lovingly cared for grounds and a pool prefect for relaxing. furnishings are modern. also a spa we did not visit. our room was a superior historic room with a canopied double bed, two chairs, and a desk. the bath was quite large with double sink marble counter and large shower. nice amenities including, robe, slippers and lotion. large dining room for dinner and a well done breakfast spread. our dinner was hit and miss as most dishes had some type of issue we disliked-overcooked pasta and shrimp, soggy & barely warm tempura beans, etc. if you need it wi-fi was strong. very quiet at night and outdoor lighting creates a beautiful a**osphere. but if you prefer to sleep in, be prepared for the roosters, etc. to wake you early. we feel lucky to have found such a splendid place and highly recommend it.

Lovely quiet hotel in an old monastery in rural central Portugal. The staff are very polite and helpful. We had a large, airy room, overlooking the surrounding fields. The decor was a little old-fashioned, but we enjoyed it. The wifi and AC worked well. And the cup of free espresso daily was a nice touch (you can buy or bring extra Nespresso capsules). The pool area is lovely - quiet and very relaxing. The food is amazing. The breakfast is one the best I have ever had, and that is comparing to travels in 80 countries! We also had a really lovely dinner. Don’t come much later than 8PM, because the staff get off at about 10PM. We paid about 200 euros for a double room through *******, which is costly for the area, but acceptable given the level of service. Some days ******* has good deals, for about 140 euros.
