Avoid especially room 3. Noisy room above pub. If it’s not the music, it’s the guests walking up the stairs, the shouting, the cars driving in front. Curtains have few hooks on them and smell of dust as does the room. There are much better hotels in Frome for less.

Five of us were staying locally & called in for lunch. We all enjoyed our meals very much. I had fish n chips, it was delicious! Tartare sauce nice too. Staff polite. Hoping to return to Frome for the monthly Sunday market so I would book a table here to eat.

Myself and my partner stayed for NYE, from start to finish nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very welcome. We stayed in room 5 which had beautiful character including a free standing bath (complimentary bubble bath included!) and was very cosy- Just what we needed after a night out partying! Slept like logs and didn’t hear a thing either given the fact the whole world was partying! Rightfully so.. The Archangel is in good reach of what Frome has to offer, a stones throw from great watering holes and the infamous Cheese and Grain! We had a lovely meal from the festive set menu and we can’t wait to come back and enjoy the usual menu offerings! Breakfast was fantastic and much needed! Thankyou to all at the Archangel for looking after us.

Popped on for a drink and something to eat while visiting Frome. First impressions on walking in were good, plenty of areas to sit and have a drink, but lacked the usual Somerset pub feel, bar staff were good, food was ok but lacked presentation. So not a pub to avoid but plenty of other pubs in town.

Our room was freezing cold on Boxing Day. When we enquired the next day, when staff were in the pub, we were moved to a much smaller room as the heating had broken. A refund was offered but not given. No one was there to check us out except a waitress who took the key and said someone would call me. Still no refund has been given, despite calls and emails. The new room was next to a room with loud speakers which were on until 1am for 2 nights, despite there being no people in the room. Terrible customer service.

We stayed here as it was close to a venue we were visiting in the evening. We were given a ground floor room which we requested for my disabled husband, which on first inspection looked pretty good, if a little dark and on a very noisy courtyard. It was also a bit of a challenge to get the wheelchair through the courtyard as it is full of tables and chairs. We had a nice welcome and were seated for lunch, even though we were about an hour early. We both had the burger and chips which was delicious and service was prompt and friendly. We popped back to our room to relax, which we couldn't really do as the courtyard has been adapted with areas for use by smokers who were pretty rowdy. We watched a film instead which was fine and then went to get ready for the evening and ventured into the shower room..... It is no understatement to say that the shower room was disgusting, damp, full of black mould with a cracked and peeling ceiling. There appears to have been a significant leak which has just been patched up and not properly resolved so there is constant stream of water flowing over grubby tiles which are just getting more filthy. The floor also looked pretty grim and not something you would want to stand on in bare feet! A scrubbing brush and some bleach taken to the worst areas would have made a massive difference, but not even this had been done. We didn't attempt to change rooms as it is difficult to move my husband around and we were only there for one night, but it was really shocking. The rooms are advertised by Butcombe as follows "With dark oak floors, gorgeous decor, environmentally-friendly British bath and body products, and roll-top baths, our 10 quirky bedrooms combine old-world character with contemporary style. Each of our rooms are perfect whether you’re visiting Frome on business, or looking to indulge in a stylish and romantic country escape". Our room could not have been further from this description if it had tried. We then spotted the mould on the bedroom walls, which you can actually see on the picture from The Butcombe website, which I have attached. The bar area takes on quite a different demeanour in the evening and is full of "lads" drinking pints, queue jumping because they are locals, and swearing. Not really the ambience for a nice cocktail, to start the evening. It took an age to be served two pretty simple cocktails and there was nowhere to accommodate a wheelchair so we sat in the cold dark corridor! On return from our evening out, we were refused a drink at the bar as the very abrupt staff member said that he has called time. It wasn't even 11pm and he didn't bother to check if we were residents. We went to breakfast early the next morning which was delicious and we had great service as we were the first ones there. Sadly nobody was available on check out to discuss any of our issues with.

We stayed in the indulgent room and enjoyed our stay because the food was lovely and the service was great, it was also very clean. However, the matress was horrendous and so we couldnt get much sleep, the centre heating was not working amd the small oil heater wasnt enough to heat the big room and we had no milk for a morning tea or coffee. Bear in mind that we unfotunately stayed on one of rhe coldest days of the year.

Really quirky historic building converted very well into a modern pub and rooms. Amazingly comfortable mattress friendly staff and delicious breakfast. Great cocktail happy hour too.

I booked two classic doubles, for myself and a friend. I was somewhat surprised that my room (7) was half the size of room 8, for the same cost. The room was tired and needed a thorough clean. For example, the fan in the bathroom was covered in cobwebs as was the corner of the shower room. The tap over the small sized sink was huge and quite frankly difficult to use. Fresh ground coffee was supplied but no means of making a coffee. I was glad it was only one night. The front door also stuck which made it difficult to get in and out, which is no doubt a fire hazard. Butcombe brewery the owners of this establish need to up their game. On the positive side the staff were polite and helpful and the breakfast was delicious.
