if you are looking for a really nice place to stay in Funchal, then this is a staggeringly good hotel. The staff are amazingly nice and helpful, the food is excellent and chef creates lovely menus for each day and then there is the gardens and the tortoise (!) - utterly amazing. Far exceeded our expectations.

This is a truly exception hotel - everything from the rooms, to the gardens, to the staff is simply perfection. We were lucky to stay in beautiful late summer weather and enjoyed all the hotel had to offer - glorious garden, seasonal food and a beautiful swimming pool. Thank you so much for making us so welcome

I don’t get excited about hotels generally but I’m making an exception here. This is an outstanding hotel in every respect. Small enough to feel utterly personal, its biggest asset is its staff - from the moment of arrival at reception through housekeeping, the restaurant, courtesy bus, every single person we met was friendly, courteous, totally professional and helpful including a fund of hints and tips on Funchal and on tour options. We just felt so special and we know they treated everyone just as well. The other key to any hotel is the bedroom - ours was generously sized and with a lovely view over the garden, so quiet at night and a comfortable bed all ensured a great night’s sleep. Everything was spotlessly clean. The breakfast was generous, and nicely presented. The half board dinners were varied, tasty and exquisitely presented. Oh, and the wine list of Portuguese and Madeiran wines was very good and fairly priced. The gardens equalled any of the major tourist ones, full of colour from and some real specimens from around the world, and the warm outdoor swimming pool was in this glorious setting. All in all it’s hard to remember a hotel that equals this one in all our years of travel. We just have to return.

This was our tenth visit to Quinta Jardins do Lago and was just as enjoyable as all our previous ones. It is a very special place with lovely gardens, excellent facilities and, above all, superb staff who really care about their guests' experience. Health permitting, we will be back again next year.

The most relaxing environment. The tropical garden is beautiful and well maintained, the staff quietly highly attentive and considerate and with only 40 rooms there is never an evasive moment. We were so impressed last year unusually for us, we decided to revisit and we definitely not disappointed

Fantastic place to stay where the staff are so helpful and friendly but at the same time unobtrusive. Great pool. Comfortable rooms. Beautiful comfortable areas to relax ( inside and outside) including a library. Very clean Exceptional garden Good food All good! There is a regular shuttle service to Funchal.

Wow, what an incredible hotel! From the moment we arrived we felt right at home, or rather at the beautiful country estate of a delightful friend. Every member of staff went out of their way to be warm, friendly, and helpful. Our four-year old was treated like visiting royalty! The botanical gardens which surround you are truly outstanding (better than the main ones in Funchal). Meals are superb — breakfast on the sunny terrace definitely a highlight of our trip! Thank you to the entire team at Jardins do Lago and see you again soon.
