Sheraton Changbaishan Resort

Visited Changbai Mountain during the May Day holiday, strategically avoiding the peak rush. Booked a Sheraton but got upgraded to a Westin family suite, which was spacious and well-equipped – the kids loved it! Concierge Xiao Hui provided excellent service, and overall, the hotel was fantastic. May Day must be considered off-season, as the entire Wanda resort area seemed understaffed. Many restaurants were closed, and we stayed for three days without getting to try the toboggan ride...

Traveling during the Qingming Festival, the resort wasn't crowded, and neither was the hotel. The breakfast spread wasn't huge, but it offered a decent variety. The view outside the window was still beautiful; we even experienced snow, waking up to a pristine white landscape. When my child wasn't feeling well, even though the park didn't have medical facilities, the hotel kindly helped us by making ginger tea.

The hotel service was excellent, with a dedicated butler assigned to us. The breakfast was very rich and satisfying, and they even offered breakfast for two adults and two children for one room, along with a complimentary afternoon tea. We had a slight delay checking in on the first day, only getting our room after 3 PM because it wasn't ready. However, the butler proactively upgraded our room the next day, which we greatly appreciated. Overall, we were very satisfied with the service.

This was by far the most uncomfortable hotel I've ever stayed in. The moment I walked into the lobby, there was this strange, sewer-like smell that filled every corner. My room was incredibly hot. Even after turning off the underfloor heating and AC right after checking in, it was still sweltering. I had the fan on all night, but it was still too hot to get any decent sleep; I kept waking up from the heat!

The breakfast is comparable to what you'd find at a budget hotel, and the staff, while polite, are rather aloof. The executive meal was utterly pathetic, like something you'd give to a beggar, and they even asked me to write a good review! How is that even possible? I can understand higher room rates, but do you really think you're delivering value for the amount guests are paying? I've traveled all over China, and for this price, with this kind of service and dining, this hotel easily ranks among the bottom three worst.

This was my second stay at a Wanda property. Because hotel prices were much higher than usual at Wanda during Chinese New Year, I opted for the Sheraton instead, even though two nights still cost nearly 7,000 RMB. But to my surprise, I was disappointed in every aspect… Firstly, on February 16th, as soon as I entered the lobby, I saw guests arguing with hotel staff. I wasn't sure about the specific reason, but I already had a bad feeling. Secondly, February 16th was Chinese New Year's Eve. My family of three was watching the Spring Festival Gala in the room, and when we tried to pull down the shower curtain, it was broken. After reporting it, we found that even when the curtain was down, it was still see-through… I nearly fainted! This might be okay for couples, but if you're traveling with friends or family with kids, wouldn't that be incredibly awkward? Then, when we were ready to sleep that night, we discovered an issue with the toilet – there was a constant dripping sound, which was driving me crazy. It was Chinese New Year and the middle of the night, so I decided to deal with it the next day. I communicated with the hotel concierge in the morning but never heard back about a resolution. After breakfast, I had to speak to the front desk myself to get a room change… It was a huge hassle, moving from one end of the hotel to the other (a very long walk, dragging suitcases for 10 minutes, and taking two different elevators). The most ridiculous part was that this concierge, after we checked in, enthusiastically recommended various paid activities to us, and we even booked some through him… Ha! During Chinese New Year, I didn't want to ruin our trip or make things difficult for the staff who were still working. So, I tried to keep my negative emotions to myself. However, an old, established hotel, even if it's been open for a long time, isn't excused from all problems. Proper equipment maintenance and staff quality training are just basic operational necessities, aren't they? If they only think about making money from customers' pockets without any sincerity, how far can they really go?

Stayed with my family during Chinese New Year. We booked a club suite and a club king room. The rooms were a bit dated but generally well-maintained. The club rooms come with executive lounge access. The light meals are served in the lobby on the first floor, and while the selection wasn't huge, it was convenient. We had a butler who added us on WeChat, recommended some local attractions and activities, and helped arrange transportation, showing good service. If you're bringing kids for skiing in winter, definitely book a coach in advance via the mini-program.

I stayed here during the Chinese New Year. It's very close to the ski resort town. When I first checked in, they forgot to provide the complimentary fruit, but after I spoke to the front desk, they delivered it. Breakfast was very crowded, and the pastry chef wasn't particularly friendly; the service was just so-so. There was a lion dance performance on the morning of the first day of the New Year. The hotel facilities are quite old. On New Year's Eve, I wanted to watch the Spring Festival Gala, but the TV wouldn't turn on.

I booked this non-refundable room after seeing the reviews too late. The location isn't as convenient as the Jin Hua next door. While it's close to the Westin ski rental shop, there's absolutely no equipment available for rent after 8 PM. On top of that, the room rate is more expensive than Jin Hua, and the cleanliness was just okay; the cleaning wasn't thorough, especially the bathrobe which had a faint smell of smoke. Unbelievable!
