This Amangalla property unexpectedly exceeded my expectations. I was drawn in by the window views, and the hotel's prime location in a charming 400-year-old historic building, coupled with the vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere of Galle, creates a very urban but also incredibly relaxing resort feel. The public veranda on the ground floor is, of course, a highlight; whether you're a guest or not, you can comfortably order food and drinks, gazing at the ancient trees nearby, and just unwind. As you ascend the wooden staircase, the views from the windows gradually unfold, and the sunset balcony on the third floor immediately and unexpectedly captivated me, giving me a nostalgic feeling of Qingdao. When the weather and lighting are good, especially with epic clouds, you can get lost in the scenery for a long time, enjoying the refreshing breeze – truly delightful. Sometimes I think that although these century-old colonial buildings might seem unremarkable from the outside, their interior spatial arrangement and masterful 'framing' of views are incredibly sophisticated and worth a closer look. I initially thought Amangalla was just one building, but it's actually a small complex. The backyard, though small, is fully equipped with a library, sauna and spa, yoga room, pool, and a meditation garden. They say monks used to walk barefoot in circles there, which really gives it that 'a grain of sand, a world' kind of feeling. The furniture and lighting in the rooms are well-matched to the building itself, each with its own unique beauty. Our butler, Kasun, was incredibly warm and attentive, introducing us to the hotel's history and various architectural features. He really delivered on the 'sense of ritual,' lighting an entire circle of candles, which was quite fun. He proactively informed us about the complimentary activities included in our package and arranged them efficiently. Although he seemed a little nervous at times, occasionally checking his notes, it was endearing. The best part was the complimentary 30-minute private spa session, which was essentially a small soaking pool and a jacuzzi. The overall spatial design was quite impressive, especially considering how difficult it must be to carve out a spa area in such a compact space. It was my first time trying a cold plunge, and surprisingly, my body gradually adapted, and I even stayed in for several minutes – it felt amazing, like a forced reboot for my system. Afterwards, I soaked in the hot jacuzzi, which was incredibly refreshing. When we checked out, our butler again handled everything impeccably and even asked if I wanted another spa session before leaving. While tempting, our schedule didn't allow for it. Overall, this is a highly recommended destination hotel. It’s truly comforting and fortunate that this building is in Aman's hands for operation and maintenance.

The building has a lot of character and history, and it's super close to the old castle – you can just walk there. The hotel offers yoga and a sauna, which was a nice touch. If you're looking to experience a bit of history, this is definitely a good choice! 👍

I absolutely love Aman! From the moment I walked in, everything felt so ceremonial. The entrance ceremony! Everything was so touching! Amenities: Everything you need! Cleanliness: The bathrooms were well-deserved, but overall, they were excellent! The beds and everything were perfect! Service: Excellent! Every staff member was so kind, no one was treated differently! Gentle and dignified! You can never go wrong with Aman!

I'd give the service a zero. As an Aman fan, this is the worst service I've ever experienced. We booked a temple and stilt fisherman tour, and the butler chatted with the driver the whole way, communicating in a language other than English. Even when I closed my eyes to sleep, he wouldn't stop talking. My husband injured his foot, and the doorman never offered to help with anything or carry anything. The service was truly terrible!!
