The Magazine Boutique Hotel

This was a great boutique hotel in a super interesting central district of George Town. The staff were super nice and helpful. The building and rooms were pretty small, but they were elegant and clean. My only issue was that the room was a loft and the staircase leading up to the bed was a little rickety. Overall, though, this was a great and cost-effective choice.

There was a pub next to the hotel, and the music and singing kept me awake from 2 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. If you’re seeking a peaceful and cozy place to stay, I wouldn’t recommend it.

We stay 5D4N , and for me this hotel is excellent, room very clean and spacious, staff very helpful and friendly, location good across 1st avenue mall, if you want breakfast just around 30 meter you will found kedai bee hong, open from 6.30. Komtar station bus only 50-100 meter.

We just had a fantastic 3 night stay at the magazine boutique hotel. Set in a heritage building where traditional features have been kept as much as possible, we love the hotel's location as it is right opposite a shopping centre and only 10mins walk to the heart of Georgetown. The family room that we had was very clean and as pictured and fit our family of 5 perfectly. Everyone had slept very well every night. (Re noise - I only heard a very faint bass at some point one night but it didn't bother me, my husband said he heard nothing at all and none of our kids complained or mentioned anything, so it may be due to where your room is situated) A special mention goes to hotel manager Kelvin - he is a gem and has made our stay super special. From the extremely clear instructions for self check in as our flight was delayed and didn't get into Penang until the wee hours, to for being super helpful in passing my son's sunglasses to the grab driver when he left it in the hotel lobby after check out. Thank you so much for being so wonderful Kelvin! I would not hesitate to book this hotel again when we are in Penang next.
