Staying at the Nam Keng Hotel in Penang felt like stepping back in time, but with all the modern comforts you’d hope for. Housed in a beautifully preserved heritage building, the charm is unmistakable—from the classic shop-house facade to the vintage touches throughout. Despite its age, everything was spotlessly clean and well-maintained. The ambiance is quiet and elegant, with a thoughtful blend of old-world character and understated sophistication. If you appreciate history, cleanliness, and a serene atmosphere, this is a true gem in the heart of George Town.

Nice hotel! We really had a great time staying here. The staff were really nice and helpful. It is situated in the heart of everything, famous restaurants, historic buildings. Really recommend!

The room is located on a side street off the main road, making it relatively quiet. Penang isn't very big; it feels like you can walk around the entire old town. Facilities: It has everything you need. For hot water, you need to press a button outside the bathroom in advance. There's no elevator, which made carrying luggage down at checkout a bit inconvenient. Cleanliness: It was fairly clean. Ambiance: It has a Nanyang-style Chinese aesthetic. Service: Breakfast was a bit basic, just something quick to eat, but the staff started preparing very early. I suspect guests on the ground floor might be quite affected by the noise.

The room is beautiful and looks exactly like the pictures. It's an upstairs room, and the superior type is larger than the standard. It's close to the walking street, bar area, and an easy walk to the street art.

Although it's an old building, it's kept impeccably clean. I really enjoyed the ambiance that comes with an older property. The surrounding area has a variety of shops within walking distance, so I didn't even need to use Grab. The staff were fantastic; they communicated patiently with us despite our broken English.

We had a lovely stay in the Garden Suite room at Nam Keng for 4 nights and couldn’t fault the accommodation or the service. We have stayed in Georgetown previously as we love the location. Nam Keng is in a very good location with lots of options for eating out from street food to cafes, restaurants and bars. We came across to the island by ferry and found it very easy getting to and from the ferry terminal using Grab as well as visiting local sites. The reason why we chose Nam Keng for our accommodation this trip was because we love the Peranakan style. The building is so beautiful. We enjoyed the breakfasts and found the staff to be very friendly and helpful.

The architectural style is antique and has a lot of local character. Breakfast was decent, but it was the same every day; a bit more variety would be nice. The room was quite quiet.

Old heritage hotel. Room was clean. Aircon was not very cold though. Tv list in room need to be updated as some of the channel were not available. Breakfast was ok but is always the same food. Staff was very helpful and friendly.

Centrally located, short walk to Penang Rd & local hawker stalls. Also, near to Chowrasta market, where you can eat locally for breakfast & lunch, buy fresh fruits etc.. Hotel is very clean with ac, hot showers & comfy bed. Nice decor.

Good location - walking distance to food and sights. Nice aesthetics too with details to furnishing. Aircon is also strong. However, there is little sound proofing and it can get noisy whenever cars or motorbikes drives by. There is also a nearby bar that plays music past midnight. The water drainage in the shower was also a little slow and I had to pause my shower so that the water would not pool. Some of the floorboards were creaky too.

Location is in the middle of George Town, walking distance to the tourist spots and nice food. Staffs are very friendly and helpful.

Great location. Walking distance to many areas including Little India. Lots of bars on Chulia st. Beautiful decor. Beds are firm. Temporary luggage storage available (hours). Breakfast includes: scrambled eggs, chicken sausage, rice and sambal, assortment of fried snacks, yogurt, tea, coffee, orange juice. Staff are really nice and helpful.

The hotel has a very good location in Georgetown and easily accessible to all places of interest. Nice n cozy vibe to rest and relax in. It comes with double-pane glass to minimize road or outside environmental noise n you will still hear a bit of sound from the mosque nearby but it has been greatly reduced and you won’t noticed it if you are asleep.. tv channels a bit limited and no smart tv for u to use YouTube or Netflix. Receptionist Thara is very helpful and speaks fluent English.

Very good location in the walking distance to many attractions, restaurants, Kimberry street food & Chulia street. Very friendly staffs.
