"We had a great stay at this very professionally run, centrally located hotel. Our room was well-equipped and comfortable, the hotel stuff was really friendly and the views from the restaurant and the roof top were fantastic. The breakfast was one of the best in the world - there were a lot of choices, freshly prepared dishes, even freshly baked cookies every day. The stuff at breakfast was extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel also offers different kinds of tours and can organise balloon rides (as the owner is a balloon pilot). I'd recommend this place for a relaxing stay in the heart of Goreme."

"Melek Cave Hotel is an excellent choice for those who want the authentic experience of staying in a real Turkish cave house, without sacrificing modern comforts. Centrally located in Göreme, just a 10-minute walk from the viewpoint and close to restaurants and shops, it offers rooms carved into the rock and furnished in Ottoman style, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Guests particularly appreciate the cleanliness of the rooms, the helpful staff, and the included breakfast, although unfortunately limited in variety. Our room, despite being carved into the rock, was very warm, but it did have a fan. It also has central heating in the winter. There are some small details that could be improved—the shower in the bathroom has no step, just a slight slope with the curtain—but overall, the hotel offers excellent value. The common areas could use a little more attention. The staff is very helpful in arranging hot air balloon tours, ATV excursions, car rentals, and airport transfers, making planning your stay even more convenient. Our window overlooked the city, so we could see the hot air balloons taking off at dawn, but it also has a terrace where you can admire them. Breakfast is varied, but there are no sweets other than bread and jam, a packaged cake, and a few biscuits. There's no hot milk; perhaps you could have just asked for it, but I honestly didn't. There's also no yogurt."

All the hotels in Turkey seem to have a two-step locking system for the doors, which I struggled with and needed help figuring out, haha. The front desk also arranged all our taxis for us! The room was clean, and the view outside was nice too."

"The breakfast was delicious. It was the best breakfast I had in Cappadocia. The room's cleanliness was about ★★★☆☆. There was some mold in the bathroom, but they cleaned it daily and provided plenty of water, which was appreciated. Arranging hot air balloon rides and tours through the hotel is a bit expensive. Booking through a service like GET your guide is cheaper. I saw the hot air balloons from the hotel rooftop, but they were quite far away. I think this is probably true for this hotel as well. I recommend doing a little trekking and visiting photo spots on Google Maps instead."

Sunbathing outside the room was also very relaxing. A particularly interesting feature of the hotel is the underground passage connecting the two buildings; walking through it has a distinctly local feel. However, if you're fixated on staying in a cave-like hotel carved into the rock, this isn't for you."

"The hotel was very clean, and the housekeeping staff did an excellent job. Unfortunately, the rest of my experience was extremely disappointing. One of the main reasons I booked this hotel was to relax after long days of touring Cappadocia. The room had Netflix on the television and a jacuzzi directly beside it, which sounded perfect. However, the television volume was permanently limited to level six. If the air conditioner was running, I could not hear the television. If the jacuzzi jets were turned on, I could not hear it then either. When I reported the problem, I was told it was because of “hotel mode” and that nothing could be done that day. The biggest issue occurred on the final day of my stay. I was told that I had to leave my original room because another guest was checking in. The hotel blamed its booking system, but this was not my mistake and should not have become my inconvenience. I was required to pack my entire suitcase, gather all of my toiletries and personal belongings, and move everything down another floor in the middle of the day. I could easily have been away on a tour when they requested this. Expecting a paying guest to interrupt their day, repack everything and relocate because of the hotel’s booking arrangements was incredibly inconsiderate. The replacement room was noticeably smaller, had a smaller bed and had a bathroom so cramped that the door could not fully open because it hit the sink. The owner repeatedly argued that the rooms and beds were exactly the same size, but from my experience of staying in both rooms, they clearly were not. The second room did not provide the same space, comfort or room type that I had originally booked and paid for. When I questioned the situation, the owner replied, “I’m the boss” and “I’m coming to the hotel.” Shortly afterward, he came to my room and knocked on the door. As a solo female traveller, having an unfamiliar man announce that he was coming and then request access at my hotel-room door made me feel extremely uncomfortable and intimidated. This was not an appropriate or professional way to handle a guest complaint. The hotel also arranges tours, but payment is accepted only in cash. As an American traveller, withdrawing money from an ATM in Turkey cost me approximately $20 each time—around $10 in local ATM charges and another $10 from my American bank. Having no card-payment option for the tours created an additional and unnecessary expense."
