Grand Rapids, Michigan’s second-largest city, is situated along the Grand River, approx. 30 miles away from Lake Michigan. Previously known as “Furniture City,” Grand Rapids has recently earned the nickname “Beer City” for the city’s expansive craft beer breweries.

Grand Rapids’ hottest months fall between June to August, where temperatures average at around 76°F. It is hottest in July, with temperatures averaging at around 86°F. Temperatures tend to be cooler the rest of year. The coldest months fall between December to February, where freezing temperatures fall to approx. 26– 28°F. Snow tends to be deepest around early February, which makes for great skiing.

Ski season closer to the Grand Rapids area lasts from late November to early April. The closest ski area is Cannonsburg Ski Area, around 20 minutes away from downtown Grand Rapids. Within the city, cross-country skiing is available between January and February. Ski across Reed’s Lake in East Grand Rapids, located only 4 miles away from the city center.

Leaving Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR)

Grand Rapids, MI is served by Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR), located just 9.1 miles from the city center, around a 20-minute drive.

The taxi service counter is located at the Parking Shuttle Shelter outside door #5.

Uber and Lyft are also available for ridesharing. Simply book your ride on your selected ridesharing app, and catch your rideshare a the Rideshare Shelter located outside door #2 of the terminal.

The Rapid includes a stop at Gerald R. Ford International Airport on Route 17. Each bus ride costs US$1.75. The bus shelter is located across the exit of door #4. This is the cheapest way to get to downtown Grand Rapids from Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR).

DASH is Grand Rapids’ free downtown area shuttle. Find DASH stops located near places of interest downtown, accessible on 2 lines, DASH West and DASH North. DASH operates from 06:30–22:00 on Mondays to Fridays and 10:00–22:00 on Saturdays. At the time of writing, DASH doesn’t operate on Sundays.
