We stayed in one of the cabanas, which was spacious, spotlessly clean and beautifully designed; a real treat from the moment we walked in. Check-in set the tone for the whole stay: the staff took the car and all our luggage and had everything sorted so quickly that we were completely relaxed within minutes of arriving. The grounds are something else. The scent throughout the property is intense in the best way; pine, lavender, even hints of coffee, chocolate and jasmine drifting through the air wherever you go. You can tell an enormous amount of thought and care has gone into the landscaping and layout. We ate at ŌRA, the on-site restaurant, and while dessert wasn't quite up to the same standard, the steak was excellent and the wine list is a real highlight — we had a gorgeous Syrah from the Douro Valley. We also ventured out to Cavalariça (Michelin-starred) and Sem Porta at Sublime Comporta, both lovely evenings, though honestly we preferred eating at our own hotel. Special mention to the team: a lovely curly-haired lady on reception/concierge, Nitin in the restaurant (chatty and warm), and Bibek, who always had a huge smile and couldn't do enough for us. The adults-only pool was blissfully peaceful, mostly empty, with lovely chilled music playing. We also spent time at Comporta beach and SAL Beach Club, both great, and used the gym daily; genuinely good for a hotel gym. Breakfast deserves its own mention: truly immense, with beautiful fresh fruit, pastries, croissants, fresh juices, eggs and succulent chorizo. It's not a cheap stay, but it's worth every penny — this is rustic luxury done properly, in the middle of a stunning pine forest. Perfect for a couple or a honeymoon-style trip. We didn't want to leave.
