Staying directly in a historic, traditional Japanese house offers a truly unique experience. The host family is very friendly and helpful, answering any questions and recommending local attractions and restaurants, including Hida beef spots! Both the beds and bathrooms are very clean, and guests are conscientious about keeping them that way. However, since the house is made of wood, you can hear any noise from other guests. I was lucky that the other guests were very considerate, so it didn't bother me too much. Light sleepers should definitely keep this in mind."
