Very good

We stayed at Fufu Hakone for two nights. Because rooms couldn't be booked consecutively at the time of reservation, we had to book them as two separate stays. It was quite strange—it felt like either Fufu or Trip.com intentionally limited the number of available rooms, making it seem like there were none left. Yet, the closer it got to our check-in date, the more rooms suddenly popped up (and crucially, the prices dropped too), by which time it was too late to cancel. Anyway, let's start with the positives. The food was absolutely fantastic! Both breakfast and dinner portions were generous, and the flavors were quite good. Restaurant service was also decent, except on our first night when we arrived a bit late. Our dinner was scheduled for 8:30 PM, and since the restaurant closes at 10:00 PM, we felt quite rushed. Other than that, there was really nothing to fault. Highly recommended! Another highlight is that the rooms are quite spacious. We booked two different room types for our first night; aside from the one on the 3rd floor which felt a bit cramped and subpar, the other rooms were very roomy and clean. The beds were also very comfortable, and best of all, the onsen (hot spring) was amazing! We honestly just wanted to soak in the hot springs and sleep in all day long. However, since we don't have experience staying at other hot spring hotels in Hakone, we don't really have a basis for comparison. Overall, in terms of hardware and the stay experience itself, I'd give it an 8 out of 10. On the downside, we felt a sense of differential treatment. The attitude towards non-Asian guests—especially from some of the slightly older staff members and even higher-level management—was apparent in their eyes, tone, and demeanor, almost as if saying, "You're not worth my time serving you!" (Aside from the restaurant staff, who were quite warm. There were two handsome guys and a pretty girl who spoke Chinese, and their service was just wonderful!) Additionally, I left my iPad behind at Fufu. Leaving an item behind is certainly our own responsibility; our carelessness caused us to lose it at the hotel. Using Apple's "Find My" last-known location, we tracked it to the hotel, and I have since gotten the iPad back. However, I do have a question: three days had passed, yet the hotel never contacted us to inform us about the lost item. Is this due to housekeeping being negligent during cleaning, or does the hotel only look for lost property if the guest proactively reaches out? Fortunately, though, the iPad was recovered in the end. To sum up our experience: between the software (service) and hardware, if you just want to soak in the hot springs, it's absolute bliss! But if you have very high expectations for the hotel's service attitude, well, I had high expectations before checking in, and the reality fell a bit short of my imagination. So, it's best not to set your expectations too high—just come to soak in the hot springs and enjoy some relative peace and quiet.

This time, I booked two rooms for my child and me. The hotel's services and facilities were quite satisfying, a true example of standard Japanese hospitality. Especially noteworthy was the lovely and enthusiastic Hong Kong lady who served us dinner. Her detailed and thoughtful explanations of the dishes made our dinner experience incredibly pleasant. On the downside: Since we planned to explore Hakone during the day, I didn't book transportation in advance before leaving my country. That morning, I tried calling and emailing the hotel to arrange a pick-up from Gora station, but I couldn't get through. The phone number kept showing up as incorrect, it was a 0570 number, and Ctrip's website seemed to show 5700, so I might have misunderstood. In the end, we had to take a taxi from Gora station. Also, after check-out, the hotel only offers transfers to Sounzan or Gora station, not to the Hakone Open-Air Museum. While it's true that it's only one stop on the Hakone Tozan Railway, we had to carry all our luggage, navigate the station, go up and down slopes ourselves. The hotel's reason for not providing the transfer was that the two places are very close. I didn't want to inconvenience the staff, but for a hotel at this price point, the guest transfer service was disappointing.

[Fufu Hakone: A Luxurious Mountain Escape] Fufu Hakone is located in the quiet Gora region and seamlessly blends modern comforts with traditional Japanese ryokan hospitality. The property stands out for its unique dual hot spring experiences, providing private balcony baths with clear mineral water in every suite alongside communal pools filled with therapeutic, milky-white sulfur volcanic water. We had a wonderful one-night stay at Fufu Hakone on 28 May 2026, which included a Kaiseki dinner and breakfast. [Getting There] Our journey began with a midnight flight from Singapore, reaching Tokyo at 9:00 AM. From there, we caught the Narita Express and changed to the Tokaido Shinkansen to travel to Odawara, before making our way up to Gora. We arrived at Gora Station close to 3:00 PM to find it drizzling. Unfortunately, local taxis were completely unavailable and we could not find any vehicles on the GO app. Fortunately, we managed to get into the shelter of the tourist information centre. The lady on duty was incredibly helpful, assisting us to call Fufu Hakone for a pickup and directing us to the exact area where hotel shuttle services operate. We highly recommend that you do not attempt to walk to the resort from the station, especially in poor weather. [Arrival Experience] The moment we arrived at the resort, we were met with warm smiles and greetings. We were guided to the reception area located on the second level of the front building and seated comfortably in the lounge, where we were served hot tea. A designated staff member came over to complete our check-in process and then escorted us to our room in the guest building. The level of attentiveness was outstanding. The staff member explained every single detail in the room, including the layout of the suite, the private balcony onsen, the water temperature controls, the television, and the mini-bar, which is entirely complimentary. They also carefully went through our dinner order, taking down all of our personal preferences, likes, and dislikes. [The Suite] Our suite, named 楢の芽 (Naranome), was located on the third level. Rather than trying to describe the beautiful layout in words, I will let the accompanying photos speak for themselves. The room features two super-single beds that are incredibly fluffy and soft, with each bed featuring two plush pillows to guarantee a perfect night of sleep. The resort provided both pyjamas and a two-piece samue yukata for our stay. The pyjamas are strictly for use inside the room, while the samue yukata is intended to be worn when exploring the public areas of the property. [Dinner and Breakfast] Both the Kaiseki dinner and the breakfast were exceptional. Because many of the exquisite dishes feature seasonal ingredients that change throughout the year, please refer to my photos for a visual look at what was served during our stay. [The Ultimate Onsen Routine] To make the most of the dual hot springs, I highly recommend this routine: - Welcome Soak: Start with the light and refreshing clear mineral water on your private balcony to gently wash away travel fatigue before dinner. - Dinner and Rest: Enjoy your Kaiseki meal, then return to your suite to digest comfortably for a few hours. - Nightcap Soak: End the evening in the communal baths. The thick, milky-white sulphur volcanic water melts away muscle tension and deeply relaxes the body before sleep. [Areas for Improvement] While the stay was mostly flawless, there are two minor points to note: - Toothbrush Set: The provided toothbrush set was rather small for my liking. It felt like it took ages to finish brushing my teeth. You should definitely bring your own if this is a concern for you. - Room Attire: The two-piece samue yukata was not comfortable at all. It is not mandatory to wear it around the property, but we chose to do so anyway to fully immerse ourselves in the traditional ryokan culture.

I looked at many hotels when planning my trip to Hakone, and finally decided on Fufu. The private hot springs in every room were a major draw. I was a little disappointed it rained the day we arrived. As soon as we got to the hotel entrance, staff were there to greet us. The check-in process was very thoughtful, and they even came to our room to explain many details. The overall lighting in the room was a bit dim, but the mini-bar drinks were good, the private onsen was satisfying, and the bed was very comfortable. Dinner and breakfast the next day were incredibly exquisite. I loved the hotel's corridors and garden views; it felt like life slowed down. This hotel is perfect for a relaxing getaway, highly recommend it!

Love the fact that the dinner was included in the meal. The onsen bath temperature in the room was perfect. We loved that we could take our bath at any time during the day.

Facilities: Pretty good, decent hardware. Location: The hotel offers free shuttle service to Gora Station, which is convenient. However, there aren't many dining options around the hotel, so you'll either need to eat at the hotel or take a taxi to find food elsewhere. Hot springs: Very nice! 👌
