Pros: The room is very large, the view from the window is beautiful, and the tea and yokan provided are delicious. The hot spring has an outdoor pool, which is very comfortable!! There was almost no one when I went there, and the whole place was reserved. When leaving, there is a shuttle bus directly to Hakone Yumoto Station, which is very convenient. You can take your luggage there and store it at the station by yourself.
Cons: The sound insulation of Japanese-style rooms is always not very good, the outdoor area of the hot spring is relatively small, and I didn’t go to the rooftop to pay to try the loan hot spring. Maybe that is better? The biggest problem is that the hotel is located on an uphill slope. It is breathless to walk up with luggage. It is recommended to take the bus instead of the entrance of the hot spring field, and take a closer station (forgot the name). Of course, if you want to eat Hatsuhana Soba, you can write your name when you pass by and queue up. After checking in, you can almost be in your turn when you come down~
The attitude of the service staff is very good. Generally satisfied.

The services is amazing and friendly. There are staff who could speak and read English and willing to answer our query.
I ask for safeguard my buggage when I already check out the hotel, but the hotel also willing to do it.
Even more, there are some existing broken part in my baggage (which is not related to hotel), but the hotel noticed it and help using tape to reinforce the broken part for my baggage.
Such services is out of my expectation, I have to give credit for the amazing service👍🏿

The hotel will only arrange to pick you up at the station after 3pm. When you arrive at 2:10pm, you are asked to wait or go by yourself. The soundproofing is very poor, and you can hear the conversation next door very clearly. The hot spring is ok, there are indoor and outdoor areas, but there are male guests upstairs outdoors, and you can hear their conversation very clearly. The room facilities are old and the bathroom is very small (you can take a shower in the hot spring area without going back to the room). The most important thing is that they didn't see you off when you left, although it's only a 5-minute drive away. If you have a lot of luggage, be careful. The hotel is on a steep hillside, and it's very inconvenient to pull luggage. It's really speechless that they only pick you up and don't send you off, and the price is not cheap 2K+

Hotel experience was mixed.
Positive: the hotel site has a lot of history, the Japanese garden was beautiful and the best part of the hotel. The included meals were good but not spectacular - yet the setting with a view of the Japanese garden was beautiful
Negative: the facility was dated with little catch up updares. Only one lock key can be provided n made my wife n my visit to the Onsen very inconvenient as we had to wait for each other all times. The outdoor access for men Onsen had to go thru a common area for men n women so need to re-clothe to get thru, not great. Facility for the Onsen bath were dated n worn out.
The in room lighting was dim n equipment facility visibly outdated.
The worst was I discovered a big size cockcroach in the bathroom when I got back from Onsen bath in the morning. Smashed it n picture enclosed.
We had high expectations coming in to the hotels with strong recommendations by Japanese friends. Was quite underwhelmed. I had stayed at other well rated Ryokans before n most have met or exceeded my expectation. This one fell far short of it.

The hotel is around 15 mins from JR station no pick up service. The service and hotel facility are much better than my expection though most of employees only speak Japanese but they still try to help you if any question . The food also amazing and they provide the Reman in the late evening after hot spring ! hopefully I will have chance to stay in this hotel in the future.

Xianjing is about one kilometer away from the station. There will be a shuttle bus, which needs to be booked in advance. Although breakfast is one person per person, it is nutritious enough. This time we are a family of 7 and the room type is just right. We booked the room type of the pension and the Baolai , very good, worth recommending, even if you push the luggage yourself, it is not far from Hakone Yumoto Station, the environment is very clean, and the service staff are also very enthusiastic.

advantage:
- Extremely clean, adequate heating, spacious
- The room has a water dispenser for ice and hot water.
- Friendly staff
- The quilt is soft and comfortable, and each person has two sets of kimono-style hot spring clothes to wear, and socks are included
- Two meals are exquisite and delicious
- The hot water in the private bath is constantly flowing, so you can start bathing as soon as you check in
- Take a bath outdoors in the face of nature, listen to the birds singing, and watch the stars at night💫
Please note:
- You need to take a minibus from Yumoto for 200 yen per person. If you walk by yourself, it will take 20 minutes to walk from Yumoto, and you will have to climb a very steep hill in the middle (an uninhabited mountain path)
- Although the water jet from the shower head is dispersed, it will hurt when it hits the skin
- No staff can speak English, so you need to use Google Translate to communicate
- People who are shy or value privacy should be careful. The private bath is outdoors facing the woods. The hotel has done a great job of shielding the wooden partitions, but people who are too shy should consider it themselves.

The location is not so far from Hakone-Yamamoto station, but if you bring huge luggage it may not convenient. We only brought our backpacks to Hakone.
The room is huge, the design is Japanese traditional house/room. We booked a room with bed because we’re not very used to sleeping on floor. We didn’t get a room with river view but that’s alright. The bathroom is okay, they have a very complete bath-amenities and skincare ranges which is nice. We tried the private onsen, we paid about 3300 yen. But it’s worth the experience. The breakfast buffet is pretty nice with many various of foods.
Overally it’s a pretty good accomodation in Hakone area.

Outstanding
MMeng ChuanHad a delightful stay at the ryokan. The rooms are quite impeccable with the smell of the hinoki filling the room, it was quite heavenly.
We chose the room with the outdoor bath. And given the cool weather, our bathing experience was amazing.
The location was also perfect if you are making a trip to the Sengokuhara Susuki Pampas Grass fields, which is such a scenic spot and of which we enjoyed walked to and through in the setting sun.
We also opted to have dinner at the ryokan, who specially made it Halal-friendly for us.
What's most amazing to us regarding the ryokan was the service. We had a Nepalese staff speaking with us most of the time, as he was the best in English. He personally brought us to our room and even gave an introduction to the room, and what we needed to take note off. After we checked out, he enquired how we were making our way to the train station. There was conveniently located bus stop just outside the ryokan, so we were going to take that. On our way out, he drove out and stopped along the road beside us (good thing there was no traffic) and to our utter surprise offered to drive us to the train station. We found out that he was actually knocking off, but instead of going straight home to rest (before his next shift in the evening), he wanted to drive us to the station. We were exceptionally touched at his extremely kind gesture (as we didn't think it was hotel protocol to do so). Nonetheless, his actions left us a beautiful and lasting impression on the ryokan.
Would definitely go again for the luxurious experience!
SSean KhooNice historical Ryokan, hospitality is their highlight. Very nice food. Spent some time in their private onsen, it was great. One of the surprise is the Zen room, relaxing environment and I slept on the massage chair simply because it’s too comfortable.
Nice experience overall!
GGuest UserThis ryokan is perfect for people who want to experience ryokan for the first time but want something cheaper within Hakone area. Situated on the main road with buses to Owakudani and train to Odawara. I'd recommend catching the bus from Odawara to this ryokan since the walking trail from the closest station to this place is hilly and has lots of stairs. Main road is not very luggage friendly so pack very light when you're staying here.
This place has very nice rooms with view to the river behind it. The view is spectacular when the entire river area is covered in red autumn leaves. Dinner and breakfast are very delicious, you will be served a range of traditional food from a la carte to dessert. You can also book your private indoor onsen FOR FREE. The ryokan also has an open outdoor onsen across the bridge for 3000 JPY.
The only downside of this place is the main road is very busy as it's the only way for people to drive from Odawara to Owakudani. So local people take this road to get to Owakudani. Buses from this place will not stop at there in the weekend. Your best plan is to go to Lake Ashi first and take the opposite route to Owakudani instead. Plan your trip in this area very carefully because a bus trip that would take 10-15 minutes will end up taking you 1 to 1.5 hours.
TTimothyIf you have extra money, this could be a nice way to indulge. However, a word of warning. If you're arriving at Odawara train station, there's no way to get to the hotel except by the hotel shuttle. Taxis won't take you. And the hotel shuttle won't take you unless you've placed your name on the reservation list ahead of time. Nobody warned me about this. I'd read online that a connecting train takes you near the hotel, but this isn't true either. I arrived during a snow/ice storm and waited over 3 hours before I could get a ride to the hotel. The shuttle driver wouldn't let me on. I called the hotel front desk 3 or 4 times, but they weren't very helpful. I suppose this is the language barrier. They meant well. But regardless, if a shuttle reservation is the only way to access a remote mountain top hotel, it's pretty important to make sure your guests understand this. Once I did arrive, I have to admit the room was beautiful. The buffet dinner was fantastic but not included in the price of the room - a little disappointing, since the room is already so expensive. Lots of extra costs, so be careful. I received a really great massage in my room. The onsen hot spring was very nice, and free (included in room charge). Breakfast the next morning was also included in room charge. The hotel bar was closed, though. There wasn't much opportunity to socialize or meet people. I did check out the lake the next morning, which was beautiful in the snowfall. I'm sharing photos of that. There wasn't time to check out much else because I had to get back on the shuttle bus at 10:30 to catch my next train. I suppose if there hadn't been an ice storm, I would have checked out more of the surrounding area and appreciated it.
GGuest UserBest hotel during my stay in Tokyo
Hot spring is nice
Drink is free to drink and even beer
The environment is good and nice too
Highly recommend and hope I can come again next time
NNigel LeeIf you drive, this is the place to stay. Open air sauna for guests, amazing breakfast and dinner. In spring, the garden is in bloom, while in autumn, you can catch the autumn colours all around the area.
33LittlePigsExcellent service! It was very crowded at check in but the friendly staff greeted us and sat us down at sofa, also directed us to welcome drinks and snacks.
It was a bit hard to find driving to the hotel after sunset as it was tugged away in a small street.
5 minutes drive from Gora station, 7 min to Open Air Museum, and 15 min to 大涌谷 volcanic steam vent.
The in room private onsen was great!! Public bath was a little disappointing, it’s quite small and co-ed, usage so we need to wear swim suits which felt a little awkward.
KkitekidThe exterior is in the style of a simple European manor, and the interior should have been renovated in recent years. The key is a traditional key with a long plexiglass room card, which is very impressive.
There is a natural hot spring private bath, where you can enjoy the view on the hillside. There are massage chairs, TVs, etc. in the bathing and changing lounge area for you to rest and cool down before returning to the room. The service is very considerate.
The breakfast is a Western set meal, which is exquisite and can be eaten as a breakfast. The restaurant faces the hillside and the scenery is invincible.
We arrived very late, and the front desk was also very friendly.
The front desk was also very friendly during the day, and they responded to every request. Luggage can be stored.
The bed and tatami are very good, and the quilt is a duck down quilt, which makes you sleep very comfortably at night.
The disadvantage is that you have to climb a slope to leave ”Gora”. There is a car to pick you up at 18:00 in the evening, so you can only climb if it's late. It's closer to ”Park Shang” and there is not such a big slope, but there is still a car at 22:00 on the mountain climbing line to ”Gora”, and there seems to be no car at 18:00 on the traction railway to ”Park Shang”. If you go late, you can only climb or take a taxi. We checked in late, so we only enjoyed the service of being sent to Gora after checking out.
GGuest UserVery beautiful traditional Japanese Wenzhou hotel
It is the tatami I always wanted to stay in
The kaiseki cuisine for dinner and breakfast is very rich and delicious~
It is refreshing to smell the breath of nature and soak in the hot springs here...
It is beautiful!
Be careful when going up and down the wooden stairs❤️
GGuest UserThis was a luxurious stay for us. The room was large and very comfortable, the private bath was wonderful, the buffet breakfast was delicious (and offers a variety for vegetarians); in fact, it was our favorite part of our trip and we wish we could have stayed longer. The downside is the hotel dinner is expensive and not suitable for vegetarians, so the hike down the hill daily for meals (and then back up it) was a bit tiresome. Definitely book the free shuttle service to and from the hotel especially if you have luggage, the “hill” it is on is in fact several steep inclines that are difficult for those less than moderately fit. Another highlight was the hotel’s commitment to honoring the UN SDGs and striving to reduce plastic waste. There’s absolutely no reason in this day and age for people not to travel with their own toothbrush and combs. If you happen to need such amenities, they are available for nominal fees, barely worth complaining over, as many reviews did. This hotel may be pricey, but it’s so worth it, and they’re doing some good for the earth, so the stay comes with more feel good feelings. We are already planning our next stay here.
