Stayed late June to see the stunning Itawake view. No skiing, just soaking in Hakuba’s nature. Hotel was peaceful, surrounded by trees — perfect for relaxing walks. Staff were friendly and super helpful. Room was clean, a bit small for what we booked. Breakfast was okay, mix of Japanese and Western. The onsen was the real highlight — so refreshing after a day out. Even without snow, Mominoki was a great base. Cozy, quiet, and welcoming. Would stay again.

What an awesome experience! The hotel offered exemplary service before we even arrived. Due to special travel arrangements, we arrived late and the staff quick to arrange an in-room bento dinner for us before our arrival. When we got there, we were immediately blown away by the gorgeousness of the hotel.
Despite its age, everything was very clean and polished. I can see that great care had been taken to upkeep the hotel and it’s premises, which are extraordinarily beautiful. We couldn’t resist taking pictures even after check-out, and it took us an hour to finally reluctantly leave. Words cannot actually do the place justice, you must visit there yourself.
We were very impressed with how delicious the food was, and the attention to detail, including the placement of the food, the coordination of food color. My mouth is still watering as I recall how delicious it was. I had 10 helpings of their prime rib one day. Besides, I had a dietary restriction and the staff were really careful with that, to the extent of reminding me what dishes not to eat everyday at their breakfast and dinner buffet.
In addition to excellent food and service, the hotel went out of its way to be very eco-friendly. For every day that we did not need our room to be tidied, we earned points, which can be traded in for ice cream or other goodies.
Finally, the staff spoke perfect English. This is rare indeed, and it made everything so much easier and so much more enjoyable. Thanks for the experience!

Very nice hotel! Super super clean. Has a ski and snowboard rental shop right across the hotel (1 min walk)
10 min walk to the closest hill
Breakfast was great. Buffet style. Both Japanese and western choices
Private hotel onsen
The pub restaurant is across the hotel. Great to relax after a day of snow activities
Japanese restaurant inside the hotel. Not a lot of choices on the menu - just sukiyaki or shabu shabu set menu
Transportation is great. Tons of buses - free or paid.
If you go out for dinner, you can ask the hotel concierge to pick you up whenever you are for free
Bathroom simple and clean - always have hot water
Only con - the wifi signal is extremely weak. The signal will go on and off whenever it wants to 🫣
And
Overall I will come stay again!

Hakuba isn't very big; the town area is just a few streets. The hotel is on a small hill, and there are several other hotels nearby, which provide the lighting for the entire hill. There are no convenience stores nearby. The hotel offers Japanese-style rooms, which I chose. The downside is that you have to make your own bed, which might be too much for older people. There were many elderly people and foreign tourists. I even saw an elderly Japanese person jumping into the hot spring without showering—a first for me in Japan.

I am very satisfied with this hotel, the location is great, the staff is friendly and the room is comfortable.
The room was very comfortable in terms of lighting, temperature and bedding. I would especially like to praise the housekeeping sister for keeping the room very clean. The room has two terraces, one of which overlooks the Happo-One Ski Resort.
We stayed for six nights and the breakfast food was roughly the same every day, but also rich. We had dinner at different restaurants in the hotel on three nights. On the first night, we had a buffet dinner in the hotel with a wide variety of food. On the second night, we had Western food at The Forest next to the hotel. On the third night, we had Japanese food at The Forest next to the hotel. The prices in all three restaurants were not expensive but the food was delicious.
The Dry Room for ski equipment is outside the hotel. It is a real drying room with a machine for drying snowshoes. It is not the so-called Dry Room in some hotels which is actually just a Locker room.

The experience was very good, especially the service of the male waiter at the front desk (didn't remember his name), which was very heartwarming. After checking out, we needed to take a taxi to another B&B, but because it happened to be the weekend and the birthday of the king, and it was snowing all the time, the entire Hakuba car resources were in short supply. It was this waiter who insisted on calling and booking a taxi for us, and finally someone took the order. And he took the initiative to say that it was not easy for us to bring children, and he would definitely try his best to help us call a car.
The environment is also first-class, you can see the romantic snow scenery outside the window, and the water flowing down from the Albis Mountains is too gentle (you must experience it when taking a bath).
It is close to the Happo-Ogen Ski Resort, and you can walk there in five minutes.
See you next time!

There are obviously two beds in a room. When I was staying in the book room, there was one person missing. I charged him to the top of his lungs and how much money did he need to live in alone? The room was small and narrow and the bed was small. I navigated to Tai Po Lam Tsuen to stay for two days and charged Qi Jiu Shui for one extra person. If I stayed in a hot spring and my nose was so thin, I would not go there again.

The front desk staff are all very helpful and quick to serve all guests and their requests. My right hand became inflamed and swollen during my trip and they were very helpful to call for a car to get me to a clinic ASAP. Shout out to Mr Max and Ms Haruka. Wonderful stay and we will hope to be back again.

What we liked: - The decor in the reception area with its big fireplace feels very welcoming and cosy and reminded me a bit of a British hunting lodge. Very stylish. We loved it! - Very nice terrace with torch light in the evening. Great atmosphere. - We also liked the glamping area in the forest next door, with its pub. - The room was quite spacious and very clean. - Very friendly staff, providing excellent service! What we didn't like so much: - It's a shame that the only two dinner options available are either buffet-style at the restaurant or barbecue in the glamping area. It would be nice to be able to have a served meal on the restaurant terrace, but unfortunately only buffet dinner is available. - So we opted for the barbecue, which was great - except for the fact that between the salad and the barbecue, we were served cheese fondue. Apart from the fact that summer doesn't quite feel like the right season for a fondue, it was very filling, so that we - sadly - had to leave behind quite a bit of the excellent meat and vegetables, as our stomachs were already quite full. My suggestion to the hotel management would be to skip the fondue (and reduce the price accordingly). Or at least add it as an option for those who really want it. That said, the local beef was fantastic, and we also liked the presentation. - Breakfast was a bit of a let-down for me as a Westerner. Only the standard choices of bread you find in most Japanese hotels (tiny soft croissants, soft rolls and toast). It would be great if some Swiss/German-style rustic bread choices were available as an alternative for those who don't like a Japanese breakfast. Also, the coffee (served from one of those big containers) was very disappointing. For an establishment like this, I would have expected an espresso machine, offering guests different kinds of coffee (cappuccino, cafe au lait, espresso), which should be seen as the general standard nowadays. - We didn't quite understand why the glamping area as well as the bar were only open until 9pm - in the middle of the summer holiday season! With no other places within walking distance (as far as we were aware), that very much limited our options for after-dinner drinks. There was live piano entertainment in the bar area near the reception, but it stopped at 9pm sharp, just as we were coming back from dinner in the glamping area. Such a shame! - While the room was OK (spacious, functional and clean), there is one thing that annoyed us: The step to get into the bathroom. I almost stumbled on two occasions when getting out of the bathroom, because I didn't expect a step to be there. I think it could potentially be quite dangerous. If there were a light at the bottom of the step, that would at least make it a bit safer. Overall a very nice stay, even though it was (unfortunately) only for one night.
